Oracle hasn’t had a chance in the spotlight in some time, so I’m drawing him getting his chance to shine. Though, in a more gruesome way than I had originally planned. This is a representation of demon hunger, that even the most calm and docile demons can become hostile and bloodthirsty. Know that Oracle isn’t doing it on purpose. Here’s how demon hunger works far more in depth:
A demon can go a total of 2 weeks without the need to kill more for a soul. If a demon is unable or refuses to kill, they slowly (and forcibly) revert to a more primal and savage nature. As souls act as both energy and sanity, demons need a certain amount of souls to even form one, as their bodies require a lot of energy so as to not become primal. Why is going primal so bad even though they already kill? Well, hungry demons need to kill 2 or 3 times as much so as to make up for the time they should’ve already had one. Demons also have absolutely zero memory of what happens or who they kill. A demon who doesn’t kill elders may kill elders during their time of savagery. It doesn’t make them feel good, believe it or not.
Here, Oracle usually only needs to kill 10 people to have a full soul. But, if he doesn’t hunt, he’ll have to kill 20, maybe even 30 people instead. He is also a Lesser and is small in stature for a demon. Remembering that there are demons like Gaze that are very big, one could imagine the damage that can do to a civilization. It is easy to know when a demon is hungry, as they will have one or more rings around their eyes.
This is the reason Demon Hunters sprung up, but killing a hungry demon, or a demon in general, is impossible. One would have better luck trying to get the moon to become the new Sun than to get in the way of our dear Oracle here. Who happened to have found some rather unfortunate campers.

Stinky: Sounds like a special force would be created to contain demons. And stopping them would become a unifying factor for all mortals. A common enemy can really bring people together. Especially if they reach epidemic levels like this. 10, 20, 30, or more people being killed by hungry demons, and many others being killed by those that aren't. Taking in to account population growth and decline... How many demons are there? Because the numbers aren't looking good.
Stella: Wait... this whole soul thing sounds like Liches from D&D. XD They need souls to keep their energy and sanity too. Couse, they're SUPER rare. And demon hunters are ineffective? Heh. Noobs.

I don’t know what D&D is, but if that’s what it is in regard to this, then I guess it does sound like that. As for demon numbers to population of other species, it takes into account that demons don’t only target people. In fact, quite a few demons prefer souls that come from creatures, aliens, other worldly monsters, etc. Anything with a soul is fair game as they are seen as universal predators. Demon population is like an ant population; way more of them than people. But the killing is only a problem if demons goes hungry, which isn’t very often. It’s also about preference. A small fun fact is that demons are more drawn to bad people. Murderers being the most common. They can tell someone is bad just by looking into their eyes (which is their origin of gateway to the soul). If a demon doesn’t have to kill an innocent, they really won’t.
Stinky: Ooo. Well, that helps keep a balance, I suppose. Though now that raises the question: Are aliens, creatures, and otherworldly monsters teaming up against demons? XD
Stella: Just think of a rivalry between demons and eldritch (otherworldly) beings! Awesome! >:3
Also, D&D = Dungeons and Dragons. XD
