And this is my Tegu. Not sure if it's a male or female yet, though I think it's female, so I'll call it as such for now =p. She's not even close to being fullgrown yet. She'll end up being about 5 feet long, including her tail. She's like a bunch of lizards combined into one. She's got legs and a tail like an iguana, a head like a skink, and belly scales like a croc. She's real calm usually and loves to be taken out of her tank. When she's big enough, she'll be roaming the house freely =) Black and White Tegu's also usually potty train themselves and will scratch at the door when they want to go out to do there buissiness =p She's Omniverous and will eat just about anything, hehe.
Oh, and btw, the one holding her isn't me. That's my other room mate, Tianis, hehe

i wish i lived in your house :_: it's full of dragons and love of reptiles, i once found the most perfect snake ever hiding in my garden, well my parents found it but i was the only one brave enough to pick it up and it just sprawled out in my arms like it was so happy to be held again, i knew it as well, belonged to an asshole neighbour who obviously abandoned it when he moved out but... i had to give it up *cries*
Oooh! You have a Tegu =] Tegus kick major ass, I may get one one day (when I'm one less a gecko and have some random huge home-built tank free to use.)
You can tell male from female by pouches under the cheeks. Males have these massive bulges on each facial cheek and females don't. It's very noticable if you have a male, but right now, unless it's a really young tegu, I think yours is female =]

Oddness. oO
Have you checked the local shelter and see if they know of any shelter-related herp vets that will do it?
You Could do it yourself. But I don't know if this technique will work with monitors. Take the tegu and push lightly on the vent area to provoke a defensive urate at you. If an obvious pink bulge emerges from the vent, it's male.

They're ALOT of work and they require alot of space. I ended up having to give mine away because I didn't have the space for him =( I couldn't take him out of his tank without his crapping all over the place(yes, he'd intentionally wait untill he was out of his tank and walking around on our couch to take a crap =p) So I couldn't handle him nearly enough, and so he couldn't be house broken.
