It really surprises me how some movie props get preserved and others they just don't care for, like the original Michael Myers mask. They had to make a new one cuz no one took care of the old one.

I had heard about that. I even heard that someguy actually found the Cowardly Lion from the set in the trash so he fixed it up and preseved it in a musum

the first Michael Myers mask. was a funny storey!!!! it was a isew with thay had to come up with a new mask asap!!!! a kid from the staff run too a hard wear stor and bout a mask of captin kirk for a halween thing pade like 9.99 and thay panted it wight! so it was jest a crappy laytex mask!

That was at this years AC? I missed seeing that. As for the shape it is in, it is almost 20 years old. THey do have one head well preserved. I think it's Mikey's and its in the smithsonian american history museum.

That's kind of normal on that kind of mask, I'm even quite surprised how good it looks in fact for this age.
This kind of material they used for it is not at all time resistant, and it felt in dust when aging. So even a little pinch on it now can probably destroy a big surface, and it will become worst and worst. Even if put in a safe and even if nobody never touch it, it would probably look like that anyway. They don't mind using that kind of materials for a movie, as it's supposed to work and be used for a very short period of time, and it was never intended to be kept forever.
I've already see masks like that in the past, that Lance Ikegawa was showing, and even when kept in a box, now they usually have only the mechanical part which are like new, and you can hardly see any rubber or latex left on them.

Disney does the same..
They have the sidecar motocycle from Indiana Jones 3, one of the props from Roger Rabbit, the ship from flight of the navigator, and Walt Disney's personal plane all sitting out in the open... just wasting away

the head's in the first movie wear the last worke of the gret mupet master jim hancen!!!!! he did alot of cool gaget's alot more fantastick than thos heads! he for a disney short projaked a 35 mneat pices i forget the name of it made a huge dragen !!!!! it was like the tirtel head;) and took 9 pupateer's too oprate the dragen + i thnak 13 too remot oprate the controols of the face.
iam not joking this dragen was 1 of the biget things he ever did i sich i cod rember the name of the show eceh week thay did a short storey jim did savel part's of it.

thar was a live movie in prducen in the 90's the 3 mices had sout's like the TMNT and thar bike's!!!!
no 1 i know of knows wear the bike's or the biker mices furr sout's are now but thay wear state of the art robtick head's like the tmnt! a scandel in the 90's broke out over the biker mice i bleve it was about toon XXX art done bye 1 of the anmader's wich back than was real bad!!!!! and the movie nover get fanced!i dont even know of aney 1 haveing futg of the film!!!! but it was 4 mount's in too prducen that i do know!

During the making of the film, they had several heads of each character. The heads would get repaired DAILY by the fx guys.

This head is in remarkably good condition after 20 years, anyone who says it hasn't been looked after is ignorant.
