★ BASIC ★
Inferfoxes are mammals, living in the caves and underground tunnels around the world. Their bodies are covered with fur and on top of that - hard, bone-like cuirass. It's meant to protect them from harm and help camuflaging between rocks, or look like skeletons to predators. They are mostly peacfull race, their diet consisting of small rodants. Their bodies produce cold flames, that give them light and lure prey towards them. They live in small herds, around 15-20 members. They mate for life. When angered or in danger they can spit flaming embers at the threat. Few times a year, during the night, entire herd goes to the surface to hunt different prey, collect sticks, eat fruits and run in wider space. It is like a celebration for them.
★ SEXUAL DIMORPHISM ★
♀️ FEMALES ♀️
Their skulls have a feline shape. The longer fangs a female has, the more atractive she is perceived as. Females have bigger paws and claws, as they primarly dig tunnels and hunt, while males take care of pups. Their flames are on the head and tail. Females have different cuirass structure than males on the chest and back area.
♂️ MALES ♂️
Their skulls have a canine shape. Males have smaller paws and claws. The longer the tail and the bigger it's flame, the more atractive he is perceived as. Male's flames are spread from the head, threw the entire back till the tip of the tail. Unlike females, they have entire lengh of their back covered in spine-like cuirass. Males rarely hunt, but can fight of preditors as their flames are bigger.
★ RARITY ★
The lighter fur / cuirass color an individual has, the scarer, as they have a harder time to hide from the predators in the dephs of caves. It is not uncommon for the herd to abandon light-colored pups. Those are rarely adopted by loner inferfoxes and very rarely survive untill adulthood.
The more colors Inferfoxe's flame has the rarer. Most common are one-colored ones. They can have up to 3 colors in their flame, altho there were rare cases (like one in 1000 births) that got more.
★ SYMBOLS ★
There are symbols appearing as glowing cracks in cuirass with age. The older or more battle-worn inferfox becomes, the more cracks it gets. Most of them create patters and symbols, indyvidual to every fox (Like zebra's stripes). The glow is the same color as inferfoxe's flames.
★ LIFE CICLE ★
Inferfoxes reproduce sexually. Females are fertile 3 times a year, but they mostly have pups once every 5 years. The pups are born after around 60 days of pregnancy. Mostly between 2 and 4 at the time. They feed on mother's milk (the nipples are located between the rib-like cuirass pieces on female's chest). They are born blind, and flameless. They first burst into flames when they're around 3 weeks old and that's also when they start to see. They start to eat solid food around 7 weeks old. They stay close to their parents for a year, and reach physical maturity after a year and a half. But they mostly mate only after they're 3 or older.
They live up to 25-30 years. The herd alpha is usually the oldest / wisest individual (no matter the gender). They sleep bundled together, pups in the middle, with one creature always on the lookout guarding the herd.
Inferfoxes burry their dead in the cave walls with honors and leaving gifts for them like gems or nice sticks (the creatures love to chew on them in a free time to clean their teeth and for fun). Many grieve by whiling, and their songs of sorrow echo in the tunnels.
