This couple is from a story idea originally conceived by one of my good friends
RodneyTheDivineDevil It takes place on a strange, mystical world parallel to Earth. A world where humans sometimes get transported to, unable to ever return. That's what happened to Elana Fitzgerald, a singer from Earth in 1925. Most humans end up lost, their bodies possessed by the spirits of the Otherworld. This is not what happened to Elana. Something about her caused her inner light to shine through in this dark world. She never lost her positive spirit, and her soul never withered. In the Otherworld, she is known as "The Angel".
Not long after her arrival, she happened across an infamous illithid crimelord known as Xalisine. He is a major power player in the Otherworld, dealing in human slaves, mystical narcotics, and anything else that will increase his power. Yet something happened when he met the young human singer. Something about her inner light appealed to him. When he looked at her, he saw a facinating person, not a potential slave or a brain to be eaten. Despite the fact that love is a completely alien concept to an illithid, Xalisine fell for her.
When it came time to build a permanent HQ for his criminal empire, Xalisine opened The Abyss, a hotel and casino that catered to its wealthy monster clientele. He modeled it after a club from 1920s Earth as a gift to Elana. For nearly a century, Elana has been at Xalisine's side as a loving partner. They share the same bed and adore each other's company. Elana sings at the club, and is one of the top billed shows. Monsters come from far and wide to hear the voice of The Angel. Some believe one of the reasons she loves Xalisine so much (and vice versa) is that she never judges him for being an illithid or a crime lord. She knows how the Otherworld is run, and she does not bat an eye when Xalisine has to execute somebody for betrayal. And she is perfectly at ease when Xalisine eats a brain out of the skull of a living victim. They are soulmates forever. And since she does not age in this mystical world, they will be together for a very, VERY long time.
