Yeah, just... seriously consider requesting some payment in advance, you have a portfolio to demonstrate your skills, since you're desperate enough to work for lower prices to get into gamedev industry you may attract some exploitative folks, best to guarantee at least some income from your work or outright disinterest those looking to scam you by setting terms they won't be able to exploit as easily.
