From the foot of the Valleys to the shores of the Channel
While Margam Castle forms the centre of Margam Park, the surrounding grounds provide plenty of entertainment for those with a love of the outdoors, including multiple pathways winding through foothills and providing beautiful views to the south, out across the plains to the Bristol Channel and the north coast of Devon, in England. I couldn’t tell you what these lovely pink-blossomed trees are, but they certainly add something to the expanse of green and the blue sky above. Geographically, this shot looks at the border between Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend counties, and the settlements of the rather quaint-sounding North Cornelly, and the less-so-quaint-sounding Pyle. It is along the path on which I stood that National Cycle Network 4 runs, though they clearly weren’t expecting road bikes like mine on parts of that route. I just bought some new tyres, and I have no desire to see them popping off large stones and gravel anytime soon, thank you. :P

I never leave on my bike without one. I'm hoping that with the tyres freshly replaced, I won't need one for a while, but I may well do if the National Cycle Network is going to keep making me cycle off-road. I may just stick to main roads from now on and annoy motorists. :P
It seems that you are entirely correct! In fact, the website for Margam Park tells the story of a Capt. Talbot Fletcher, who inherited the Margam estate in 1918 and was a keen supporter of botanist Francis Kingdon-Ward. The rhododendrons were brought back from the Himalayas on one of Kingdon-Ward's expeditions, and they have taken very well to the South Wales landscape. ^__^
