In my own experiances some pains can be a source of comfort. I once was in love with a girl who tore my heart out three times... I still love her in a way. It's become something I know will always be there and that helps me accept it.
Sort of like if you go without eating for longer than one meal you feel the hunger but it's almost a comfortable hunger.
