A Name More Part 6 (FINAL)
Here is the story I've spent five months on writing and polishing. Also, here's the behind the scenes on this story.
When I did The Story With No Name, it was with the expectations that it'll not have a sequel. After all, the story I felt was complete and I had no plans on bringing Blondie into more stuff other than pictures. It didn't help that I wrote it in a dark mindset if the rating on that story didn't make that clear to you guys and I wasn't interested in moving back to it. It was also written with the idea that it has no connections with the Legend of the Fox stories Fines Malum and Fur Trade.
Then I met a friend from the Crimson Flag chat,
Benjamin_Mahir, who enjoyed the story and made a slight but earnest request that I make a sequel to that story. I didn't think much about it until, that night, I thought about it more during one of my nightly walks (walking is how I generate ideas. It's also a good way to debate with yourself and get out of topic in a second). It was then that this story pops into my head until I could 'see' the broad strokes of that story. The same friend was also a fan of Wild Coyote and wanted me to write a story with him, which might be how he and the Legend of the Fox stories were joined with Blondie's story.
The earliest 'draft' is actually from 2013, around the time when I began work at Amazon. However, that draft was for a class and was super compressed. I knew that it was and it suffered for it. So much so that, outside of a few friends, I have no plans on showing it around. Still, I kept it in order to inspire me to do the proper version.
And then I left it on the back burner for a few years until 2017, where I began the first rewrite to the short story in decompressing it for another class. That basically encompassed the entire part 1 of the story, though it caused confusion with my classmates, especially in regards to Wild Coyote being a nick-namer. Even after adding a few paragraphs that are meant to explain that, they are left even more confused. After making an attempt at writing it more later that year after class ended, I chose to put it on hold again.
Then a lot of stuff happened since then, such as being terminated from Amazon, joining and leaving Safeway, joining and being let go by Target (though they really wanted to keep me), and finally working at Home Depot. I've also got back into writing in a big way since I found a system that works out for me. Still, I originally planned on working on The Pokémon Prometheus 2 and then work on A Name More (I actually did planned on doing A Name More not too long after doing The Pokémon Prometheus, but my initial plan on just hopping on the draft where I left it for years didn't work out for me).
What caused me to move up my timescale? College, of course. I took a Portfolio class for Creative Writing as part of getting the Creative Writing certificate (the final part) and I was told to write a story and send it to my teacher on a bi-weekly basis for him to review. As such, I chose to put The Pokémon Prometheus 2 on hold (again) and this time, rather than starting out at the part where I left off, I just re-restart the project from scratch. By the beginning of April, the story was done though I chose to not post it until now so that my teacher wouldn't find it online while class was in session.
As a coincidence and a way to bookend this long tale, the teacher from the 2013 class (introduction to creative writing) and the 2021 class (portfolio) is the same guy.
I'll just say that there have been a lot of changes since the initial draft. For example, the plan was originally supposed to have Blondie fly back into the US by hiding in a suitcase, but my classmates doubt that he'll survive the pressure changes, the cold, etc., so that was scrapped into this longer plan to travel by boat. I also wasn't originally planning on having Oserotto be a character, but she was created as a by-product of the plot getting longer since the shortcut (the plane) was scrapped. Heck, there were heavy chunks of expositions, mostly just to catch up on readers who didn't read The Story With No Name, that was cut at my teacher's requests since he sees it as bogging down the story. There was also supposed to be an exposition scene where Wild Coyote explained to Oserotto how he figured out Blondie's location and that Tolle is helping him, but it was practically its own part and the only details that were necessary, that the phones were bugged and how that could be, was discussed in briefer and more tense situations anyway so it wasn't needed.
In any case, I hope you guys enjoy my story. =)
Like the pine trees linin' the windin' road
I've got a name, I've got a name
Like the singin' bird and the croakin' toad
I've got a name, I've got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I'm living the dream that he kept hid
Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Like the north wind whistlin' down the sky
I've got a song, I've got a song
Like the whippoorwill and the baby's cry
I've got a song, I've got a song
And I carry it with me and I sing it loud
If it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud
Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
And I'm gonna go there free
Like the fool I am and I'll always be
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
They can change their minds but they can't change me
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
Oh, I know I could share it if you want me to
If you're goin' my way, I'll go with you
Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by

Was not expecting to have enough of an influence to be worth including in the behind-the-scenes. I will admit, my time in Crimson Flag was so long ago I can't remember all the details. I just kinda remember seeing the version of this you made for your class back in 2013.
But you shared this with me a few weeks ago, and I said my peace back then. So instead I'll give a shout that I'm glad to see you still writing, and that I hope your teacher like this.
