So heres a W.I.P of what I want to be an alien hibernation pod of some kind, but my boyfreind and mum, and anyone else I show all say it looks kind of like a window O.o...oh well...still gunna work with it! XD

The reason they say it looks like a window (and I did too, to be honest) is probably due to the lack of context. Seeing just that looks like a window, indeed.
You might want to turn down the reflectivity a bit on the "glass" bit to give less of a "mirror" look. Also, maybe using a different file for the reflectivity; using the House And Clouds picture wouldn't be the best choice. In this case, I'd suggest instancing your model into a wall, generate a render of that "wall of pods" and use it as a reflection file.
