Been wanting to pick up a more serious style recently similar to the one I did for this picture ( https://www.furaffinity.net/view/39585346/ ). Drawing using fox photos as references has definitely helped me a lot with giving them more realistic proportions, and using these eyes instead of my usual cartoony eyes definitely adds a lot to changing the tone of the image for me. Going to do a few more of these, I've got one other one I've drawn in this style to upload.
The story behind this one is that the fox is a grizzled familiar who works on soul contracts for the mages who summon him. I've got an idea for a story focused around him, but I'm not sure if I can draw this style consistently enough to make it a comic, and I'm not sure if I can get myself to write often enough to make it a series or novella. Ah well, we'll have to see what the future holds. For now enjoy this rough and tough fox ready to shoot magic from both snout and tail.

I like to think familiars charge different rates. Some want a portion of your soul, some just want 10% of any energy you spend casting a spell to bring back with them.
As for Seamus (working name for the fox, not set in stone) he just does it to have access to the material plane for the duration of the contract. There's a lot to experience topside, and going as a fox also means the humans who summon him are more willing to let him skulk around the streets at night because it's harder to explain why you suddenly have a fox in your house than a bird, rat or cat.
