"Good morning. Good afternoon. Good evening. Wherever you are, I just hope you're well. I'm neko., and it's 10:46 on July 13th. It's a warm summer Tuesday night, and I've been hard at work on a song just for you. Would you like to hear it?"
This is one of my favourite pieces to date. It started a few weeks ago, on July 13th, 2010, at around 10:46. I was having trouble sleeping, so I got up out of bed and started playing around with my guitar with a drum loop in the back.
All of the samples in this song are from that night. I even used the same drum loop.
I experimented a lot with this song.
The purpose of this song isn't to be musically enjoyed, at least not primarily. Its main purpose is simply to set a relaxing mood, and then be enjoyed as a piece of music second. This isn't something I usually do.
Additionally, this is the first time I've ever used a vocal sample in one of my original works, and on top of that, it's also the first time I've ever tried to do any sort of scratching. Because of the amount of different things I tried to do with this piece, comments and critique are welcome and very much appreciated.
Additionally, a more polished version of this track is going to show up on an EP I'm working on. They're going to be sold in a very limited run of about 30 or 40, depending on demand/reception, and will be sold only in disc format. For about $5-8 (I will cover shipping), plus any sort of donation you're willing to give me, you'll be getting three tracks, the total time of which will be around 25 minutes (I'm planning); a home-burned disc with a home-etched label; a handmade disc case/sleeve/whatever you want to call it; and a special surprise! If you dig downtempo and chillout electronica I assure you you're definitely going to get more than your money's worth. And you'll be supporting an upcoming furry musician who doesn't write shitty trance or whatever, which is always good, right? Right. Support the minorities, eh?

At first I thought repetitive but then I sort of realised I was listening to it the wrong way, as you said "set a relaxing mood" which it accomplished very very well. The blend of electronica drums and hypnotic acoustic worked very well, which I found a bit odd to begin with since I don't listen to much acoustic outside the instrument's occasional appearance in some Trip Hop and Industrial I listen to.
The song itself has a similar (but less sombre) feel to this song.
I liked the radio-esque EQ on the voice, primarily because I love that lofi effect like nothing else. x3

This song is, essentially my style in a nutshell. I'm not writing music that's meant to be up in your face and given the spotlight, but rather the kind of music that's just content to just block out your surroundings and troubles while you think about more important matters; this is actually the kind of music I listen to when I'm trying to solve problems and stress.
I can hear only vague similarities between the two songs, however XD The biggest difference, I think, is that Glow is in 6/8 which gives it a more faster-paced feel.
And yesssss. I love love love my band-pass filter XD You haven't heard the last of that EQ, believe me.
Thanks so much for faving and watching, it really means a lot to me. <3

It's wonderful that you can pinpoint the kind of music that represents yourself so precisely. I have vast trouble in that regard and I find myself drifting off on musical tangents often, I blame synthesizers, so much you can do, so little time - especially when playing live, you feel inclined to tweak all those knobs *TWEAKYTWEAKYTWEAK*. I can see the acoustic guitar is more about the feel of things, and this song has such a distinct feel. You don't listen to it, you feel it, and it feels good man. ;P
The similarities I hear are probably my lack of knowledge in acoustic guitar-based music and the subsequent clumping of it that occurs. To a woodworker oak is oak, mahogany is mahogany, but to others they're both just wood. x3
As a musician myself you don't need to explain how much it means, I don't watch many people because I like to try and comment on as many of the people I watch as possible; so if I watch loads the value of such a gesture is lost as I lose time to value all their art collectively. Many thanks for the watchback too. ^v^

Haha, I'm certainly no stranger to going off on tangents either, though, really... just a quick skim of my gallery should be able to prove that. It's just that this kind of ambient, chillout electronica style is the kind of music that I'd like to continually actively pursue no matter what sort of tangents I happen to go off on. I hear ya about synthesizers... although I don't do a lot of tweaking with the patches, I do have quite the large library of soundfonts to work with (my current setup is an old Mac from my high school music department) on top of more than the typical amount of traditional musical instruments, and I blame them for the almost comical diversity you'll find in my gallery.
Also, really, it makes me incredibly happy to hear that my music actually IS able to transcend the usual "listening" aspect into the "feeling" realm... I don't keep it a secret that one of my major influences is a group by the name of Lemon Jelly, and a quality of their music that I've always admired was the ability to make me FEEL an emotion, rather than just visualise a situation or tell a story--although their songs are also certainly adept at doing that, as well.
Also, you're very welcome for the watch; I can dig me some synthpop, haha. I'm into pretty much any genre you can throw at me, really though.
