Um. This is a new for me. So after being eaten by essentially a demon, I'm standing on what looks like the ocean floor. How did I come to this conclusion? I just watched a school of yellow and blue fish swim by. So I did the logical thing: slap both hands over my mouth, preventing any more air from escaping. But after three minutes passed by, I noticed I was fine, because normally I could hold my breath for a good two minutes. However, the water felt like air, breathing normally. I moved my hands slowly from my mouth, and glided them to where my answer might be: my neck. Though I guess I wasn’t ready for the part. Just as I was about to reach my throat, I heard loud music from further ahead of me. Eager to see where I was, I jumped off the floor, and began swimming my way towards the sound. It felt like regular water, I could swim in it like regular water. So how was I breathing like it was a regular day? I was still human, not like I grew fins or turned into a fish. I wasn't use to swimming for longer than five minutes, so I landed on the ground. I swam far enough to see the source of the sounds was a brightly lit castle. The castle shun a pale yellow, and was unlike any human based one I've seen before. It looked like it belonged and was built in the ocean. I now knew where I was. I only hope I can find actual help. But my chances of not getting eaten are low. As I walked past seaweeds and reefs, I resumed to check the sides of my neck. As I originally thought; like on those of sharks, I had three slits in the upright positions on both sides. By the way they feel, they were thin, a piece of paper could barely fit in them. This curse on my body is still throwing me for a loop with what it does. Once my legs were recovered, I jumped off, heading towards the undersea castle before me.
After what felt like a whole hour of walking and swimming, I finally reached the source of the music. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Inside an open stage area, similar to an opera house. But what was unbelievable was that there were sea creatures playing a variety of music instruments. And there was actual merfolk dancing and laughing to the music. I don't think I’ve ever seen a merfolk, I was actually shocked at the different kinds. But seeing as they had fins instead of legs, I knew I would stick out in a bad way. So, I swam away from the area, and went into the main part of the castle. As I swam through the halls, I was impressed by the fact that instead of electricity, they use a kind of object, moss or a glowing rock for a source of lighting. It didn't take me too long to get captured. A pair of purple octopuses, each wielding a spear, found me swimming. Not exactly hospitable, they jabbed my back to forward me into a large room. My guess, the throne room. It didn't take much to realize I was right. A single, golden trident was pointed upright, as it stood next to it's wielder. An old man, who had muscles of somebody in their thirties. He looked in his sixties though, the long white beard was evident of that. And that five pointed golden crown on his head sent a clear message; The King. As his gray blue eyes noticed my legs, his grey eyebrows lifted in shock for only a moment, but disappeared quickly. In a commanding voice, the king waved his right arm across, swinging it from left to right.
“Leave us.” Said the old man, his voice just bubbling with power. I heard the octopuses leave without a word. When I looked back to confirm this, only a bubble trail remained. Suddenly, even before I could turn my head around, the sound of energy building up was clear. I jumped high as the energy landed, hitting only the sea floor as I flipped to face the king. He stood over his throne, or rather floated. No legs, only a sea green fin. “Prepare to die, human.” His trident glowed a powerful yellow. I only managed to say two before he shot me in the chest:
“I surrender.” I spoke before I was hit with enough energy to feel like I was tazed by four guns at once. And with the same effect, I thought I died.
“Ugh my head,” I croaked as I started to come to. I noticed a few things as the feeling in my body returned, as well as my sight. I was kneeling in front of the King, him glaring down at me, looking into them was similar to peering at a whirlpool with no clear bottom. I tried to get up, but I only then noticed that my hands were being bound by something weird. Was that- seaweed?
“Has your species found a way to last underwater as long as us now?” said the beefy merman. “But what find most unusual is that the blast I hit you with, was enough to knockout a humpback whale. So, are you alone? How many of you are there? What weapons do they dare use in my ocean?” he kept hitting me with questions, but most, if not all, of his inquires were more static on a tv than actual sentences. When a moan escaped my mouth, a growl came from his eminence, followed by his trident pointed towards my neck. “Answer me, human!”
“Excuse me, your highness,” I managed to speak normally again. “But I was hit with allot of power, so I'm understandably tired. And if I answer your questions, then here is the correct responses; I don't know. I don't know. Yes. One. And lastly, I don't know.” The large three-pronged fork was moved, and a thick hand grabbed my neck. My hands went to grab one of his large, golden bands that was bigger than both of my hands. He was so strong! If not for me having gills, he would’ve choked the air out of me by now. Still, didn't help that his squeezing grip was slowly crushing my throat, and nearly covering my gills, had he grabbed an inch more of my neck, and I would be out. What's worse, I'm in his territory. He's at a clear advantage. Desperation filled my mind, so I weakly slapped his band multiple times. “Please, sir. I can only leave with your help.” I croaked out as I could feel my lungs straining to breathe. I was scared, more so than when I first started on this adventure. I was willing to try anything, even asking this monster king to do something I dread. He must've heard me, because he released me. I floated down to the ground, coughing loudly. He hovered in the same spot, glaring down at me with a look that was making him rethink letting my neck go.
“I'm listening,” he said, feeling like the ocean went silent so his voice could be heard everywhere. My coughing fit finally subsided, so I rose to my feet. I'm not exactly sure if I should really tell him my entire dilemma. With those eyes filled with such anger, better shorten the explanation. I spoke calmly, making sure my words weren't filled with fear or anything that'll turn his kindness into wrath.
“Your majesty. I am but a unwilling traveler, forced into unknown places, such as your ocean. A monster placed a dark spell on me, and now, I am forced to intrude on others such as yourself.” Everything was good so far. Probably only because he hadn't resumed to choke or zap me did I make the assumption.
“You said I could help you leave my seas,” his voice bounced around the throne room.
“Yes. This spell forces me to not only go places, but to a specific individual. I am to, regardless of method, um,” I started to stutter as I was blushing with embarrassment. Asking a total stranger to eat me wasn’t exactly a simple thing to do. The bottom the trident banged on the floor holding his throne up with force. This room had serious acoustic problems.
“Spit it out already!” he yelled with anger.
“I need you to eat me!” I cried out. The last thing I said hung in the air. Quite literally as the words, ‘eat me' echoed in the room for a minute. When I looked at him after the sound of my plead vanished, I saw silent confusion. “The one who cursed me had a dark sense of humor. After I am, um, eaten and digested, I reappear in another realm. And this cycle continues until he decides to release me.” As I finished my sentence, the merman glided down towards me. I gulped as he floated in front of me. Without a word, he—embraced me? I was being hugged?
“I am sorry to hear your plead. I could never imagine being away from my home, my family, without knowing when I might return.” He spoke calmly in my ear. He was right. I never realized what my curse actually meant. My amnesia was another bonus that wolf put on me. Because of it, I always figured I was alone, no family or friends. But if I did, and they were waiting for me, I couldn't imagine a worse life. A person who may never return. Truly, this curse must end soon.
The king swam once around me, then stopped in front of me. He made a sound, probably imagining how he's gonna eat this human.
“Unfortunately, I'm not strong enough to make either myself bigger, or you smaller. The best I could do is zap you into a sleep like state,” he explained, making his point by aiming his glowing trident straight at me. Without even waiting for my reply, a bolt of energy hit my body, enveloping me in a bright cocoon, which faded till gone altogether.
King Triton swam towards the still boy. He was simply floating there, as though the human fell asleep while swimming. Without realizing what he was doing, he stroke the left side of the sleeping child before him, his hands that were barely rough on the surface. He had hoped that this was the first and last time he would eat anything like he was about to. And that this would be the last time this human would need to eaten. He wasn’t evil in any way. He was a surface dweller, but was the world as simple as everything above is evil? No. He was the King. His choice to believe the surface was a dangerous place is correct. He shouldn't be feeling bad for this one, but he did. The old merman moved his hand from the cheek, and grasped the back of the head. He needed to do this. As he slowly opened his mouth, a thought came across his mind. This thought had just materialized as he began pushing the head of the drowned human into his wet mouth.
‘At this moment, I'm not a king helping an intruder. I am his executioner.’
He was expecting the human child to taste terrible, but he didn't. In fact, the old king was realizing that he wasn’t swallowing, he was tasting. He licked the head trapped between his jaw. It almost tasted of seaweed, but more sweeter. Without noticing, the buff king was drooling. Such flavor. Such soft texture. He wanted more. He swallowed the imprisoned head into his gullet, pulling more of the immobile intruder inside. His mouth was stretched a little wider when he had the shoulders in his mouth. As the king tried to get more in him, he could feel the faint breathing coming from the human’s head. It was soft, and almost soothing. He stroke the head shaped bulge hidden behind his silver beard. It was only when he noticed his hand was traveling down along his body did he realize that his meal was slipping further inside on it's own. When the head stopped within the six pack the king had, he finally saw that the only thing that remained of the sleeping body to send inside, was the legs and feet that were casually floating outside his mouth. So he did what anybody would do if they had food dangling out their mouth: slurp it up. The sound echoed as he sucked the last bit of human into his maw. When it was in his mouth, he swallowed hard and watched as his stomach grew into a muscle gut. Gasping for air, or rather for water, Triton breathed calmly now that he was able to. He placed his left hand on his thick belly. He could feel it expand due to the breathing of what was inside. But what was more interesting, was that he could feel the human’s heartbeat resounding within him. It was rather nice. The hand that was just on his gut was now gently rubbing it. A merfolk only really eats plants, so the digestion rate will be rather slow. However, the boy will still sleep until he has been completely digested, due to the magic of the triton. So until he was broken down, the king will just have to live with it. Which honestly, was no bother at all.
