Cotics appears in my very first book. Officially, everyone in the cast knows she was mate to the warlord Zaman prior to his passing, and she later married to Mayl. She also carries the offspring of Zaman, who died within the first week of the 8 week pregnancy, the last 5 of which Mayl initially volunteered to play the role of father figure to the cubs, but ultimately Mayl and Cotics realized they were meant for one another.
Less known is that her marriage to Zaman was arranged by their parents. Cotics did care for him, but knew his stubbornness would result in untimely death. When he endeavored to challenge the Ferret Lord Vustra, a series of tactical mistakes led to his death and the temporary defeat of his army, who regrouped under Zaman's chief captain, who was also defeated despite better planning. When the Ferret Lord offered to care for Cotics upon realizing her true character, she met and quickly became good friends with Mayl. Shortly after becoming mates, she reveals her deepest secrets to him:
She is native to another realm, of Alfheim rather than Asgard. More so, she is the daughter of Keldrin, a weasel of Alfheim that performed many experiments in the field of pregnancy. When Cotics was still in utero, her mother developed complications that forced Keldrin to suspend himself and his pregnant mate in a preservation fluid that would shield them from the effects of aging until the technology to help keep Cotics and her mother alive could be invented. 200 Earth years passed before Keldrin was awakened. Procuring what he needed, he treated his mate with ohja hormone therapy, which regenerated her body against the complications, but their unborn daughter absorbed some of the treatment as well. Now their daughter has super-fertility, having the strength and capacity to safely carry enormous numbers of cubs at a time. However, she and Mayl agree to keep this knowledge on the down low; it was already one thing that she had been married to a ruthless warlord that tried to take over; it would be quite another to see that she can walk around like this at full term without needing rest. Before the birth, neither expecting parent knew whether she carried many kits, or large ones. As it turned out, she would give birth to eight.
