Melantha and Theodora are something of an "odd couple" in some ways. For one, Theodora is vastly younger than her Sphinx bride, having met and fallen in love with her spouse before she was, culturally speaking, supposed to find a mate. It's hardly uncommon for an Echidna's first mate, or Typhon, to be older to a degree, but Melantha has seen the rise and fall of civilizations, whereas Theodora is far newer to the world. This hasn't negatively impacted their relationship, though some members of Theodora's family weren't exactly too thrilled about her sneaking off to be with Melantha when she was supposed to be focusing on her responsibilities.

Another reason that they can sometimes be considered odd is the fact that both women are powerful, intelligent, business-savvy beauties, who spend an unfortunate amount of time apart due to Theodora traveling to monitor their many business interests. When they do have time together, though, it's entirely impossible not to see and feel the love they share.
