From WIP web comic, fantasy series - title pending
Ander Gray's true form.
As a cub, Ander was orphaned by fae hunters and found by an older, human couple living in the deep woods. His adoptive father, Sir Loren Gray, had been a knight of the nearby kingdom but left due to hating the anti-fae stance of the King. Loren and his wife, Kaleen, had no children of their own, and took in the tiny pooka. They raised him as their own son, and Ander prefers to look human rather than revert to his true form. Though Loren and Kaleen never spoke poorly of his pooka body, Ander grew to hate it and forced himself to avoid shifting back. Holding a human form for too long causes discomfort, but Ander has trained over the years to maintain it. Only after many weeks does he become exhausted.
Ander is capable of shifting into a horse, a goat, a crow, and a dog, though he never shape shifts unless absolutely necessary. He finds it distasteful as he longs to be human.
Through the course of the story (WIP), he learns to accept what he is - he is helped along by a friend, Bran, who encourages him during their time together. He was rescued from human aggressors (anti-fae soldiers) who captured him after the death of his adoptive parents.
Image is of Ander in his pooka form because he's exhausted. He is not happy.
