Very long ago, there was a happy young anomalocaris named Amy.
What is an anomalocaris, you say? Well, they lived in the Very Long Ago in the oceans, with fins that ran down both sides of their bodies, so they swam by wiggling like eels would do, if eels laid on their sides.
So, there was a young anomalocaris named Amy. She was very pretty, with bright green eyes. She had a lot of friends, and they would swim around and laugh and play together in the deep warm sea.
And that’s what they were doing, Amy and her friends Tina and Willy, when it happened.
“Oh my,” Amy said, and she folded herself over and hugged herself.
“What’s wrong, Amy?” Tina asked.
“Are you okay?” Willy asked. Willy was a little slow, and preferred to stay near the bottom.
“I’m hungry,” Amy said. “I need lunch.”
Tina swam about and rolled over on her back. She was a good swimmer. “We can help you look for lunch,” Tina said.
Amy was happy to have such good friends.
So the three friends searched high and low for Amy’s lunch.
They searched under rocks, and they searched under the sand on the bottom of the sea. Willy helped with that. He was very good at digging.
But they couldn’t find Amy’s lunch, and poor Amy was getting hungrier.
Willy said, “Well, if we can’t find Amy’s lunch, we must ask someone.”
“That’s a very good idea, Willy,” Amy said, and the three friends went to go talk to the Old Clam.
The Old Clam was very old, and it was said that he’d been around before anomalocarises. “Hello, Old Clam,” Amy said politely, because she was a very polite young lady anomalocaris.
The Old Clam opened his shell. “Hello, young Amy. Is something wrong?”
“I’m hungry,” Amy complained, “and we’re looking for lunch.”
“Ah,” said the Old Clam. “Keep looking, and it’ll come to you,” and the Old Clam closed his shell.
Amy wriggled her fins and thought.
Tina waved her feelers around and thought.
Willy waved his spines around, very slowly because he was a little slow.
Amy looked at Tina.
Tina looked at Amy.
Amy seized Tina in her claws and ate her, leaving little bits to drift down in the sea and land on top of Willy.
“Why did you do that?” Willy asked.
“Because I was hungry, and I wanted some lunch,” said Amy.
And Amy ate him, too.
The End.

The young wolf blinked his indigo eyes at The Storyteller. “Really?”
The Storyteller smiled. “What?”
“No happy ending?”
The Storyteller said, “Ever heard of Grimm’s Fairy Tales? The original story of Snow White?”
“Yeah.”
“Disney had to do a lot of work to make them kid-friendly.”
“Oh.” The wolf thought for a moment. “So, what’s for lunch?”
