When I do the 'no lines' type of art I usually have lineart on a bottom layer and use it as a guideline to color over it (then later delete the lineart layer).
It also helps to use dark shadows and bright highlights to give your art a natural outline in some places so it doesn't look too much like a blob xD and puts more depth into it.
