His real name is Pekka Heikkilä, but he is known better as Raikko Kuunen. He was born near the town of Säkilä in 1988, in a small family farm. At the age of four, the farm had to be sold due to the national economic crisis that hit Finland in the early ‘90s, and Pekka’s family then moved to the capital city of Helsinki in the search of job. He started going to a Catholic school at the age of 6, when his parents established with a small grocery store. Things went smooth; his father taught him to play the guitar, and he learnt quickly, showing a special interest in folk music. With the recovering economy of Finland, Pekka’s parents could eventually pay all their debts and buy a home of their own. As time went by, he grew up and became interested with literature, and especially with ancient mythology; this brought some problems to him, often found by his teachers reading “blasphemous work of the devil” during lunchtime. When he was 15 years old, he got expelled from school for refusing to hand one of his books to the principal and answering back. He then started to attend a municipal school for the rest of the year. He then opted for a vocational school to study technology; there he met more open-minded people, which helped him fit better than he did in comprehensive school. He met Onni Anskalä, a drummer from Jyväskylä that was studying technology, too. He and Pekka (who by that time came up with his artistic name, Raikko Kuunen) had a common interest in melodic and folk metal, and so Onni suggested him to search for other musicians and start a metal band. And so began his new path.
