Toes Never Lie: Feet, Sand & a Broken Record. Jerberjer!
They're back! And in another great
jerberjer pic that's been ready since April 3, but I've been saving it for Paw Day. No prizes for guessing why.
Feet, Sand and a Broken Record is the sixth album by Toes Never Lie, and their first release since their year-long hiatus. The backstory: TNL started as a group of friends, but after doing five albums together they were starting to get on each others' nerves. Band leader Vesra Dorantes, who is haunted by the acrimonious endings of both her parents' marriage and her previous group Spasmacademy, held a meeting and told the others: "I can't go through this again. If being in this band will destroy our friendship, then I'd rather we break up. But maybe we can just take some time off from each other, like a year or so. We'll each do our own thing, then decide if we still want to work together. Sound good?"
Everyone agreed, so TNL went on hiatus. The members did solo projects, but they began to miss their bandmates. By the time they reconvened, their enthusiasm for the group -- and each other -- was renewed. However, there was a catch: guitarist Dayton Kitamura wanted his boyfriend Gabriel Novak-Tasifa, a multi-instrumentalist who had guested on all TNL's previous albums, to be brought in as a full band member. Fortunately, no one had a problem with this, and the new, expanded TNL continues to rock venues all over Creaturia.
Other stuff:
• TNL's first five albums, in order of release: Accident, Blood Bag, Control Your Mind, Dignity Is an Illusion, and Emergency Iridescent Bodily Discharge Service.
• Why a foot fetishy cover? Because Vesra and her girlfriend Lorinda Rosenfeld are into each other's feet, the other members are okay with paw stuff, and some of their fans had been asking for a foot pic from the beginning. Also, this.
• Why the broken record? Because I wanted something cool and enigmatic to put in the center of the image. Maybe it also symbolizes TNL's temporary breakup. The back cover has a pic of the record stuck back together with duct tape.
• As you can tell from the clothes, this "photo" was taken at the same "session" as this band portrait.
• The feet belong to, clockwise from upper left: Vesra Dorantes, Lorinda Rosenfeld, Dayton Kitamura, Gabriel Novak-Tasifa, Zira McFarren and Stuart Rydecker.
• This is the first time that TNL have put a picture of themselves on the front cover of one of their albums.
• Feet, Sand and a Broken Record is available in all formats, including picture disc.
• Once again, thanks to
jerberjer for another great pic, and to you for reading all this.
