It means "protect".

It also means "Charm" or "Amulet" or "Defense". That's a kanji you find a lot in the lucky charms you'll find in Japan.

It's also technically Chinese hanzi, not kanji, I think, though this particular character is identical in both.

they all use different spell-sets depending on which word group/radical they control. the wolf fella uses only words with the "gold/metal" radical : q
