It hasn't quite been revealed yet in the story, but Kat and Donal are betrothed to one another, and are supposed to get married. They don't look happy, do they? That's because they're not in love with one another. They just see one another as good friends. The only time the Gaeans ever let anyone marry out of parental pairing was Kathy's mother Genna to Alexander, and you SAW how bad that went. xDD So, needless to say, they aren't letting that happen again.
