I fell in love with the antique brass hardware of this Kala banjolele. These brass fittings secure the ring at the top of the photo which holds the banjo head in place. Look closely and you can see that there is a gap between the black shell of the body and the back which is trimmed in white. There is a set of felt washers which act like spacers to maintain that gap. Some players prefer the sound of the instrument when the back is completely removed.
