Hehehee - strictly speaking there are are two states Scree's cells can be in, either a primordial undifferentiated state, or they can mimic those of another organism. The primordial ones can dissolve/absorb/dismantle/whatever other biological material and construct more cells like themseves, which Scree will typically absorb and direct to wherever they need to be before they assume their new tissue type.
He can also inject a massive dose into someone and watch them melt, as seen with Gloom.
As with all chimera cells, they communicate in a rudimentary fashion with their neighbours, and a mass of primordial cells can wind up growing into a new critter if they're exposed to the necessary biological material (ie, something to assimilate) - so in the Gloom scenario, if they were left alone, there's a chance that a bat-creature might have grown out of the mess...
I left most of Scree's biology out of his voct profile since it's irrelevant to a computer simulation :p
