I’ve been trying to work that paper plate gag into the comic for about a decade.

The entire diner is a visual nod to a comic I did in college called Seven to Seven, a workplace dramedy. (Before you click that link I'll warn you there's no furry content in that series.) That comic takes place in a different universe, so it’s not the exact same establishment, even if the owner at the bar looks suspiciously familiar.
