Went to the Dayton Airshow yesterday... and was generally unimpressed. I haven't been there in at least a decade or so. Not much in the way of planes to look at (Thunder Over Michigan actually had more, last year, with fewer people) and mostly show-oriented. Don't get me wrong, I like the stunt fliers on occasion... but seeing 4 or 5 of them in one day kind of kills that interest.
Regardless, one perk was the fact that they had two of these B-17s there, which made me much happier. I'm certainly looking forward to Thunder Over Michigan next month, too, when they'll have 8 of them flying in. Murrpurr.
WWII planes are great to see in existence at all, and flying ones like these are even more amazing. I'm so glad to see people put the time, effort, and (lots of) money to keep these things going. You can keep your jets and your B-52s. I'll take the sight and sound of a P-51 or this B-17 any day.
