A few weeks ago, when I'd posted my full-color World Cup tribute "Striker Meets Zakumi" - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4034231/ - I had told
Tai-1 about some similar artwork I'd drawn back in 1992 for the 'funny animal' APAzine "Rowrbrazzle". However, I'd thought it was already posted in my "Fur Affinity"gallery; but upon closer examination, I'd discovered it wasn't included... until now!
Back in the early 1990s, when I'd become a 'Waiting Lister' for "Rowrbrazzle" (on my way to becoming a full-fledged member), there were so many contributors (up to 75 members and over 30 'waiting listers') that the APAzine had to be published in multiple parts - up to five parts for a totally-packed issue. This meant that as many as five members/'waiting listers' had to submit some sort of cover art - mainly complying with the usual anthropomorphic theme of the publication.
In the summer of 1992, I was getting psyched up for the Summer Olympics - especially since these games were being played in Spain, the homeland of my late father Joaquin (who, sadly, passed away one year earlier). And I came up with a brilliant idea for some cover art for the July, 1992 "Rowrbrazzle" (Issue #34), as the mascot from the previous Summer Olympics would (figuratively and literally) 'pass the baton' to the newest mascot from the latest games.
So, I drew a picture, set at a 1,000-meter relay race, with 'Hodori' the tiger (the mascot of the 1988 Summer Olympics from Seoul South Korea), passing the 'baton' (represented by a copy of the APAzine) to 'Cobi' the dog (the mascot of 1992 Summer Olympics from Barcelona, Spain). I was even able to incorporate the Olympic Rings and the Olympic Torch into the logo of the APAzine's title - using an interesting font of 'rub-on letters'. And since the cover art was in black-and-white (printed on colored cardboard), I'd used different sheets of Zipatone for 'colored effects' (mainly on the shorts of each mascot, and on Hodori's stripes).
BTW, a black-and-white version of the "Striker Meets Zakumi" art will grace the back cover of Issue #106 of "Rowrbrazzle" (due out real soon). Of course, by this time, the APAzine's staff has been whittled down to twenty-four members, three honorary members, and just one 'waiting lister', so said issue will appear in just one part (instead of up to five parts). But when you consider that it's the last surviving 'hard copy' fanzine of this nature, it's a great honor to be a contributor to it in ANY capacity!
