Markus gulped as he found himself staring upwards, petrified and utterly unable to look away. Viktor’s massive mask loomed overhead, two menacing, glowing eyes peering directly into the young man’s soul, as if god himself were passing judgment on him.

In reality though, there was nothing special about the way Viktor was looking at his little test subject. The trial run of his prototype Miniaturization Ray was successful and the looming scientist was merely checking to see if Markus was in one piece. The singular metal finger shifted this way and that as Vitkor made sure to examine the young man’s current state closely – as closely as he could with just a visual overview anyway.

To Markus though, the subtle motions of the finger that held him up would be reminiscent of a bumpy ride on a malfunctioning hoverboard. It was a constant struggle to maintain his composure in the face of the very real danger of simply slipping off to his demise.

“Do you feel any discomfort?” Viktor asked quietly, trying to keep his voice down for the little man’s safety.

Markus winced, as Viktor’s words left his ears ringing for a moment. He shouted up, trying to confirm his status, yet Viktor’s expression remained just as expectant as before. Realizing that his puny shouting couldn’t even reach the bigger man’s ears, he stood up, shaking his head left and right in an animated, exaggerated manner.

After confirming a few more basic things with Markus, Viktor concluded that there were no immediately apparent adverse effects associated with the procedure, expect perhaps one. The only question that remained was – would Viktor be able to grow his new assistant back to normal?
