Yee, the crimson nirnroot is red and only grows underground in Blackreach, the normal nirnroots grow on the surface. But I think you can plant the crimson ones on the surface. However, both are semi picky and only want to grow near water such as rivers or ponds. So they likely just invaded someone's priceless garden.
