A Loving Winter of St. Louis: Commission
Commission done for
olympiaxylaige of her and her mate
ecstaticforsure in St. Louis. She specified the skyline and archway in the background. I had every intention of doing a ferryboat until I started sketching it out and realized the background started detracting way too much away from the central focus. :(
I love how this came out--I've never been good with detailed backgrounds but I'm actually really happy with this one! It may need to be faded just a bit to focus more on the two love-bitten critters in the foreground, but that's at the commissioner's discretion :3
I used a number of textures for this, especially for the background. I filtered the sky at least twice, the water is filtered once, and the ground beneath the snow has a grain filter with a pattern overlay!
Commissioner and mate both feel free to repost :3

it's just beautiful. the skyline, the snow, the shading.. everything! i absolutely am in love with everything about it. you really captured exactly what i was going for with the mood. as for the background, i respect your decision to omit details (the riverboats) as you see fit, and i can definitely see how they might have clashed with the way you have things now. also, the texture you used on the arch is wonderful.
thank you so so much! <3
thank you so so much! <3
I had sketched it out and had the base colors done for the boat, and I realized.... you know, it detracts a LOT from the main focus, and makes it look really cluttered. :/ I thought it would have been a great addition, but I realized I had been wrong.
I'll send the large file to your email address--could you note me with the addy?
I'm so glad you like it! I loved, LOVED working on this piece!

haha!!! She wanted this. :3 Thank you! I found the perfect reference picture for this, although I had a LOT of trouble with the wall/road... I ended up making it look more like a brick wall (thank you free textures!), but I like the effect it had. I think I'll have to work on snow, though, lol.
I adore the snow. It IS heartwarming, when you're out in the snow with someone else. I dont know, I just think snow is wonderful.

If I remember, Union Station has an upstairs, and if you between the two, it looks like you went back in time 100 years, for a few steps.
I really hope that I am remembering correctly, cause I intend to take my twin brother back there, as soon as I graduate electrical school, so we can hang out there again.

If it's not there, that I'm thinking of, it must be Chicago.
o3o If I find out later on that I'm wrong, in 4 years, I'll be sure to tell you otherwise.
