Being servants and food. That's it.
Let's use kobolds, for example. Their whole life and purpose is to find a dragon, worship it and serve it; even sacrifies themselves to the dragon as food.
But then, all the dragon disappeared.
Now without the dragons, what purpose the kobolds would have?
That's what I think how these Dwellers must have felt.

I've met people like that. And I always ask them the same question "Alright, you like so many others can see the problem. Have you figured the solution yet? Cause if not. All you're doing is wasting time and breath" (And annoying the ever living fsck outta me) I usually don't say that last part but, I have accidently let it slip 4-5 times
