[Edit: another old repost, pic made back in December, 2020]
Last drawing of the year, bye bye 2020!
I've wanted to draw the Strange Lion since I first saw him, because my brain immediately screamed at me that he had to be related to Zira somehow (father? brother?) and as you can guess, I like to think he's Zira's father :D
Although he doesn't have an official name, I'll be referring to him as Ajabu (which, according to Google Translate, should mean "strange" in Swahili). And this is a little backstory I planned for him:
Unlike other rogue lions, Ajabu wasn't interested in joining a pride. He'd wander through the savannah, sometimes meeting a lioness he liked and briefly staying in her pride until Ajabu got bored of that place. He was a smart, cunning lion, but much like Scar, he wasn't particularly strong and he had no chance against most of the lions he met, ruling their own kindgoms or smaller prides within a kingdom. Those male were strong, but often brutish, simple-minded and easy to deceive as well, so Ajabu was always polite around them, always peaceful, he did whatever he needed to do to enjoy the company of the few lionesses he courted, but after several nights of passion Ajabu always left without a word. Most of the time, his disappearances happened at the same moment than the lionesses told him that they were expecting or even close to giving birth.
Ajabu wasn't father material, or rather, he simply had no interest in raising cubs so he didn't make the slightlest effort to be a decent father. After all, he wasn't part of the pride, why should he care? Cubs were the pride's responsibility, not his. Of course, there had been times when Ajabu bumped into some of his lovers and was greeted by young cubs, so he was aware he had a couple of cubs here and there. When he met Zira's mother, pretty much a rogue like him, he thought she would be different. Being an older lioness, Zira's mother wasn't interested in having cubs with Ajabu, and for some time it seemed like he was finally going to settle down, but eventually he also got tired of Zira's mother, the world was big and her territory too small for him, so one day he simply disappeared. However, he didn't leave for long. Pride lionesses were a bit too clingy in his opinion, and expected him to patrol the borders, hunt for the whole pride or even help them raise their cubs, so Ajabu decided it was time to come back to Zira's mother. Unlike the other lionesses, Zira's mother lived alone, so instead of berating Ajabu for what he did or didn't do, she'd probably try to please him, hoping he wouldn't leave her side again. But Ajabu was VERY wrong. When he returned, Zira's mother seemed happy to see him, and so did Ajabu... until the lioness placed a little furball right in front of him, announcing that he could babysit their daughter while she was hunting~

Same! From the moment he appeared I suspected that he could be related to Zira (brother, father...), but the show never confirmed it and he barely appears for two minutes, never to be seen again :'D
And thank you!! ^^ About Zira's mother, I honestly always imagined her similar to DJ88's version (outlander face/body, slender body type, black outlander nose, bright eyes), cos I love her design haha, perhaps in my version her pelt would be darker, not as dark as Kovu's but not as light as Zira's either.

Yes, it was a pity that this character was given so little screen time...On the other hand, the fandom already has a well-established and quite popular image of Zira's father (Kuzimu, whose atvor is also DJ88)
So, maybe the authors of TLG just didn't want to break the hearts of fans :D
After all, because of this secret of Zira's parents, so many stories and art appeared
