Oh no... the poor babies. ;c; I' used to dislike these guys... but... after spending a week with them in zoo camp... I love 'em. The poor things...

I know what you mean. i wasn't fond of rats when the first one fell into my lap...

now I generally have 12 or so around the house because I foster XD I can't imagine it being anyother way =3

It makes me sad to know people create such horrible environments for such sweet little critters.

I know, It really breaks my heart. Its why I started working with a rat rescue as a foster home--what frustrates me most is that many people who would speak out about similar conditions for dogs and cats often say "it's just a rat." I've found that some pretty bad conditions are with people that take pretty good care of their other pets. People seem to equate pet rats with vermin and think it justifies poor conditions =/

I miss my ratties. I had a 6 rat rat-pack and they were free range and got along very well with my cats and dogs. Had one cat that liked to get into their main cage and sleep with them. I wish I had taken pictures. I am so used to seeing happy rats that when I see one without its eyes boggling I feel sad and tend to think its eyes are sunken in. But then I have to remind myself that all of my rats were crazy happy, and not all rats are.

I don't see why people think rats are so...worthless. They have a lot of benefits as pets. They are sweet and intelligent. And if you have problems with house rodents, having a pet rat (or rat pack) helps get rid of the pests. They also eat bugs, and love getting fruits and veggies. When ever something is starting to get bad I give it to my rats, saves a lot of produce and stale crackers/bread from just getting thrown away! Give them old newspaper and old (shoe) boxes and they are the happiest pets in the world...

I agree, it's like having a dog that needs so much less work--and their poops can be vacuumed XD Take that fido!

I got a puppy and its been annoying cleaning up after her...rats are so much less messy.

The ink doesn't bother them? The ink on newspaper killed one of my guinea pigs once. :/

i had to get my rattys adopted ~ my siggy died of cancer. But... this cute ratty didnt deserve something like that happening to him...
I love rattys. ~ and zack is still alive. I got them adopted by a woman who could take care of them ~ she has a MUCH larger cage. and better conditions. I have dogs... so I dont think i can get rats again for now, not till i move out and get a bigger cage. Then i can get some again and take care of them propperly...

Some people that i've noticed when they see a rat ... or a fancy rat they go Eeeeew. Actually... what really pissed me off... is a mother and her family saw the rats in a pet store they said Look kids Eeeew rats! And basically training them to say that. etc. They are so miss-informed. Then the kid went over and Kicked the cage window >=|

These animals are intelligent / cute / cuddly., and have better personalities than dogs i believe. And they dont make as big of messes =B unless you have a tiny cage ~ which... i did. Because it was suggested i get this cage etc. And i listened and it was VERY SMall for 2 rats. >=| They fought over space, i didnt want that.

er... sorry for the um explination. ~ but yeah rattys should be treated with love. Not as Snake food ~ Not as something to say Oh its just a rodent, or Oh its just a useless animal. ~ They have their role in this world wether we like it or not.

I totally agree rats are awesome, it's why I foster for the local rat rescue. They really are deserving of more love than they get!

Actually, what you do is carry it with you with the rat in the pouch, it gets it used to your scent, warmth and just being with you but also makes them feel safe so they don't run away. I find a hoodie can also work, but can be a bit warm to wear!

Oh, nice! Sort of like something you wear for sugar gliders, just larger, I imagine. I've got a drying bag sized for a ferret that might work. I'll have to try it. :3

Yup! It's nice to see him not cowering in a corner too, when we first got him he was TERRIFIED of us. He spent more time hiding than anything, poor l'il guy. His brother and their friend Dove got adopted, but honestly, I think Fonzie is doing better now that there is no other nervous rat in the cage to feed negative energy off of.

XD I check it ofen myself...I have to admit, it takes a lot of effort for me NOT to adopt half the rats on there---I keep reminding myself, I foster because I can't afford to take in every rat under the sun.

I really want a hairless..I know better, because they get adopted easily and i feel it would do the rescue a disservice to not adopt a PEW or a biter...but someday I want a nice-tempered hairless =3

My heart rat just recently died... he was a hairless dumbo. I loved him more than life itself. Hairless really are great rats, so snuggly! I know MRR has Alphaeus (sp) from the Maestro Encore litter lol.

I am currently treating a rat with 6 large abscesses from a fight. It's so sad, he seems to be in so much pain, but he is such a sweet baby. I can't wait to see him get all better :)

Fonzie looks pretty cool and I'm sure he'll get better. You're a great rat caretaker from what I've seen. I remember you telling me about the rats you were taking in, and I'm happy to see he's doing well.

I'd say something intelligent but all I have in my brain right now is "LOOK AT THAT CUTE FACE!" Sorry. :P

He is <3 he's come a long way since this was written but he's still a 1-person only rat, this is why I adopted him--the only person he responds to is  atraties and it's been nice to see him blossom. He'll be with us for life =3
