Rhys's Bizarre Adventure
Oooooooh boy this has been a story that has been a long time coming. Firstly, Rhys and Cherry goodness, secondly a story WITHOUT Kajex in it for once. Even my main character has to take a break from the spotlight. And fun fact, that game Data Gear Ace is playing is actually a video game story I never finished.
This is my ONLY Micro May story special. I'm not gonna really do what I did in Macro March with the story suggestion thing, since I'm planning a commission reopening in the middle of the month, and... people once again ruining my fun with a whole size talk themed month just like Macro March. I won't talk about it any further, but that is why.
(And yes the title is a JoJo reference)
It was a late Thursday morning. Rhys was currently wrapped up in his sheets like a cocoon, doing his best to sleep in for as long as possible because he didn’t want to do aaaaanything today.
“The chicken belongs in the pillowcase, not the graham crackers,” Rhys groaned in his sleep, “Whatcha thinking you goofus?”
His blissful dreaming ended abruptly when his phone started to flare out with anime music and vibrating, seemingly his phone’s ringtone.
“Ugh, moooom?” he groaned as he tossed and turned, “Just five more minutes pleeease?”
The phone ringer stopped after a brief moment, giving him a moment of reprieve.
“Thank god,” he thought, “I can go back to-”
His phone IMMEDIATELY started ringing again before he could even finish his thoughts, making him throw off his sheets before rubbing his eyes in an agitated manner.
“Oh my god WHO is calling me?” Rhys groaned as he reached for his phone.
He looked to see that it was Cherry calling him, instantly melting away his agitated state and making him go pure puppy mode.
“H-Hello Cherry?” he stammered as he accepted the call. “I was WONDERING when you were gonna answer!” she exclaimed into his ear, “You’re already a half hour late!”
He jumped a little and nearly dropped his phone with how loud she was screaming.
“I-I overslept okay?” he stuttered, “Y-You know I like to sleep i-” “Yeah, well I need you over here ASAP now!” he exclaimed, “While Ace is still at school for the day!” “W-Wait why?” Rhys asked curiously, “You wanna test something dangerous don’t you?” “You’ll find out when you get here!” she exclaimed.
Rhys slowly got to his feet as Cherry kept almost begging him to come over.
“O-Okay I’m coming Cherry,” he remarked, “Just let me eat something first.” “Alright fine,” Cherry cutely pouted, ‘But he gets out of school in 2 hours, so don’t lag!”
Cherry hung up as Rhys let out a shaky sigh of relief.
“I always sleep in on the days we plan dates,” he sighed.
He hopped out of bed and thought about how they did indeed plan this on Monday, but he completely spaced it out and stayed up until 2am the night prior.
“She wants to test something dangerous,” he thought as he gave himself a good stretch, “I can feel it. She doesn't get THIS insistent otherwise.”
Rhys exited his room and went to his kitchen to grab ANYTHING to eat before he left.
One hour later…
Rhys was slogging his way through the streets, still groggy from his unexpected wake up call as the afternoon sun kept bombarding his eyes.
“Next time please just wait,” he groaned as he neared her place, “Or just accept that Ace is gonna be home during it.”
After a few more minutes of a pure slog of a walk, he finally arrived at the front door.
“Okay Cherry,” he said as he reached for the door, “I’m he-”
He knocked on the door once, only for the door to creak open like Cherry left it open for him to walk in on his own, reminding him of a film he had recently watched with her.
“Pl-Please don’t tell me she’s planning another horror movie binge,” he thought as he stepped inside, “I-I’m still having a few nightmares after last time.”
He closed the door behind him to see that nobody was in the living room, but noises could be heard on the top floor.
“O-Oh okay so it IS something dangerous,” he breathed in a half-sigh of relief, “N-Not much better than more horror movies though.”
He creeped his way up the stairs, the sounds becoming louder and clearer. It was sounding a lot like something was boiling.
“Cherry cooking something in her lab?” Rhys thought as he neared the top of the stairs.
He arrived in her lab to see Cherry messing around with a beaker filled with a blue liquid on top of a bunsen burner, seemingly brewing the concoction.
“One test tube’s worth of this will have one the size of a mouse,” she chuckled to herself, “All according to my simulations!”
She began to cackle like a mad scientist as Rhys awkwardly shuffled over towards her.
“Now just for the test!” she snickered, “Then I can change any paramete-” “Hello,” Rhys said as he placed his hand on her shoulder.
She jumped and clawed at Rhys after his surprise attack, but he kept her away with one arm.
“Don’t do that to me ya mutt!” she exclaimed, “You nearly gave me a heart attack!” “Well you WERE just cackling like a mad scientist to yourself,” Rhys replied, “I had to bring you back to reality somehow.”
She stopped trying to claw at him and began to cutely pout instead.
“Kept me waiting long enough,” she grumbled. “I was up late last night because I wasn’t expecting to come here until later,” he replied, “So can you please cut me some slack?”
Cherry turned off the bunsen burner and let the brew cool down while she rummaged around for some other items.
“So let me guess, some kind of shrinking potion you wanna test on me?” Rhys remarked as her cheeks turned red. “Y-You heard it that far back?” she blushed as she opened a drawer.
She pulled out a small test tube and an eyedropper out of the drawer before closing it.
“Why even make a potion when your rays are second to none?” Rhys asked curiously, “Potions seem unnecessary.” “W-Well I just wanna prove that science based potions are better than magic ones!” Cherry stammered, “Th-That’s all!”
Cherry dipped the eyedropper into the beaker and began to siphon some of the potion out of it.
“O-Oh really?” he asked, “Wh-Why do you have to prove something like that?” “I-I made a bet okay?!” she exclaimed, “And I don’t wanna lose!”
Cherry squirted out some of the eyedropper into the test tube until it was full before giving it to Rhys.
“A-A bet?” Rhys stuttered as he grabbed the test tube, “W-With who?” “None of your business!” she exclaimed, “J-Just drink it for me… please?”
Rhys inched it a bit closer to his mouth as nervously as possible.
“Afterwards can we go grab burgers or something?” he squeaked. “Okay deal!” Cherry exclaimed as his cheeks turned red, “N-Now drink it please!”
Rhys took a deep breath before taking a sip of the potion, getting half of it in one swig before coughing up a storm.
“G-Geez that tastes awful!” he coughed uncontrollably. “Well it could be worse!” she exclaimed as Rhys began to visibly shake, “Just finish i-”
Rhys dropped the test tube. The glass shattered against the floor while the remainder of the potion splashed all over Cherry’s clothes.
“Oh crap, crap, crap, CRAP!!!” Cherry exclaimed as the potion seeped into her body, “W-We’re SO dead!”
Their bodies began to shake before a blue aura surrounded them before their bodies began to shrink and compress them into a smaller size.
“G-Geez,” Rhys wheezed, “That potion kicked in fast.” “H-Huh?” Chery stuttered as she got closer to Rhys, “I-It’s at least a dozen times as potent as my simulations predicted.”
They were already halved in size now, Cherry holding Rhys close to make sure they wouldn’t get separated.
“W-Wait what?!” Rhys stammered, “H-How small would I have ended up in your simulations by now?” “By now You would’ve been m sized to give you an idea!” cherry exclaimed, “With a full test tube mind you!”
They were now doorknob sized and still shrinking while their nervousness grew.
“So uh.. I guess I got lucky with the spill?” Rhys squeaked. “We’re not gonna be lucky if Ace gets home before it all wears off!” Cherry replied.
The shrinking finally subsided when they were no larger than an ant. Everyday surroundings now appear as vast as a desert and as tall as mountains… and they were trapped against the cold, tile floor.
“Oh yeah…” Rhys squeaked in the awkward realization, “Ace is a facto-”
They could hear a door closing in the distance, making their hearts sink in dread.
“He’s home… isn’t he?” Rhys squeaked as he awkwardly turned towards Cherry. “Yeeeep,” Cherry awkwardly nodded, “So it might be a good idea to RUN!”
Cherry and Rhys began running at top speed, but a single tile was like a football field and faint tremors weren’t making it easier.
“We’re screwed Cherry!” Rhys wheezed as he had to pause, “We’ll be dead by the time we get away from this tile!” “Okay maybe,” Cherry sweated as she fell to her knees, “If you drank that whole tube’s worth then who KNOWS how screwed you’d be.”
The tremors became stronger and stronger in a rhythmic pattern, clearly footsteps heading straight for the lab.
“Y-Yeah I’d rather NOT get stuck under a microscope today,” Rhys panicked as he looked around him.
Rhys and Cherry dove into the divot between tiles for cover as Ace visibly entered the lab, one hell of a mountain compared to him.
“Cherry?” Ace asked in a whiny tone, “Can I get help with my math homework?”
Ace looked around the lab completely confused as he stepped inside, not seeing a single trace of either of the two in the lab except for the test tube on the floor mere inches from them.
“If they’re gonna go out can they at least make sure they don’t leave a test tube on the floor,” he said as he walked towards it.
He ground quaked with each step, making the two fly into the air higher and higher.
“G-Geez we’re stuck in the middle of an earthquake!” Cherry stammered as she crashed into the ground. “And I don’t like it!” Rhys panicked.
Ace squatted down to pick up the test tube, not even seeing the two against the tile they were so tiny.
“Ace! Down here!: Rhys exclaimed as loud as he could. “Use your eyes!” Cherry continued.
Ace was so oblivious and braindead from school that he just thought he was hearing some flies or something instead of his sister and her boyfriend.
“Guess I’ll just clean up and wait for her to come home,” he sighed as he reached for the test tube.
Ace picked up the test tube and unknowingly Cherry and Rhys in the process. The two clinging onto the fur of his hands for dear life.
“I-I don’t wanna die like this!” Rhys whimpered as he held onto the fur for dear life. “Then don’t let go ya dork!” Cherry replied as she swayed across the air.
Ace dropped the test tube in the drawer Cherry got it from and closed it while Rhys was on the verge of tears.
“Guess I’ll go make a snack or something,” Ace remarked as he turned around, “While I wait.”
Ace turned towards the staircase again with the force of a wind tunnel on full blast, both of the lovers tightening their grip to stay on.
“Okay next time I’ll listen to you if you don’t want Ace coming home!” Rhys cried as he looked towards the floor hundreds of feet beneath him. “If you don’t I’ll drag you here myself!” Chery cried out.
Ace began heading down the stairs. Each step down was like a mini earthquake as his arms bounced with each one.
“But man she could have warned me with a text message or something,” he sighed as he neared the second floor, “Being home alone is so booooring after school.” “It wouldn’t be so boring if you used your ears!” Cherry exclaimed in frustration.
Ace arrived on the first floor and diverted course straight for the kitchen.
“I wonder if we still have some of that fudge,” Ace said to himself as he opened the fridge. “Y-You had fudge and didn’t tell me?!” Rhys stuttered in his puppy voice. “It was only like five bucks and wasn’t all that good!” Cherry flailed, “I’ll grab decent fudge for us after he drops us off somewhere safe!”
Ace rummaged around in the fridge for a little bit before pulling out a small plate with a nice chunk of fudge wrapped up in cling wrap, him licking his lips at the sight of it.
“Come to papa,” he smirked as he turned towards the counter, “After I grab some milk to go with you.”
Ace began to set the plate onto the counter as they looked at it with a sense of relief.
“We gotta jump!” Cherry exclaimed, “Or we’ll be stuck against his milk glass!” “You don’t have to tell me twice!” Rhys exclaimed as he let go.
The two flew across the air for what felt like miles when it was just about a foot or so, crashing straight into the middle of Ace’s fudge as he looked away and began to rummage through the fridge again.
“Geez I feel like I wanna puke,” Rhys groaned as he rolled over. “That makes two of us dork,” Cherry groaned as she tried to get to her knees.
Ace set an empty glass beside the plate, making them jump in the air one more time.
“Maybe also have a room dedicated to shrinking experiments next time too,” Rhys wheezed. “I’ll make a note of it,” she replied.
Ace poured the glass to the brim with milk before closing up the gallon and putting it back in the fridge.
“Now for some rest and relaxation,” Ace smiled while licking his lips, “In my room obviously.”
Ace picked up his glass and plate before carrying them back upstairs and to his room.
“At least this is a hundred times less scary than hanging onto his hand fur,” Rhys remarked. “Thankfully,” Cherry sighed.
They began to bounce into the air repeatedly again as Ace began to trot up the stairs again.
“Didn’t miss this though!” they panicked in unison.
Ace turned when he reached the second floor, nearing his door and the two begging for this to stop.
“Gonna snack on some fudge and play some more Data Gear,” Ace hummed to himself as his tails wrapped around his doorknob, “That final boss is SO annoying to deal with!”
Ace uses his tails to open his door and kick it open before doing the same to close it.
“Now let’s let the magic begin,” he smirked as he sat down on his couch.
He set the plate and milk down on the coffee table before turning on his console and TV.
“We’d better get off now before he gets us mixed up with the trash!” Cherry exclaimed as she jumped off the plate. “O-Oh yeah I never thought of that!” Rhys continued.
Rhys leaped off of the plate just in time before Ace unwrapped it, the actual garbage getting tossed into the trash can in the corner of the room.
“Let’s beat this game today!” Ace said as he took a deep, confident breath, “I can do this!”
Ace took a fee bite out of his fudge and took a quick swig of his milk with his gamer energy behind it all.
“Yeah, and you’ll end up crushing us while you play your game,” Cherry rolled her eyes at, “I know you.” “How could he possibly do that?” Rhys replied in a curious tone, “He’s just sitting on his cou-”
His question was cut off when Ace kicked his feet up onto the table, completely squishing Rhys underneath one and narrowly avoiding Cherry.
“Does that answer your question?” Cherry said in a sarcastic tone. “Yes it does,” Rhys replied while being completely muffled under Ace’s weight.
Ace’s game started up and he was all comfy, leaving Rhys there for what could potentially be for hours while Cherry got to just sit on the table.
“This is gonna be a while isn’t it?” Rhys awkwardly squeaked, “Depends on when the potion wears off,” Chery shrugged, “So anywhere from 5 minutes to like 3 hours.”
Rhys whined like a puppy at Cherry’s little remark.
Two hours later…
Ace was finally at the final boss of his game after having to restart the final mission. His excitement and determination were through the roof, which made him a liiiittle jumpy with each action he made much to Rhys and Cherry’s dismay.
“He’s seriously gonna kill us because he's getting excited over a game?!” Cherry panicked as the table began to shake, “THAT I didn’t expect!”
Ace was beginning to sweat a little. The boss was in the final phase and he was running low on health.
“Come oooon,” Ace gritted, “Just a few more hiiiiits!”
The table began to shake even more violently, inching Cherry closer to the edge with each shake now.
“C-Crap I’m gonna fall!” she panicked as she tried to fight back. “W-Wait what?!” Rhys panicked, trying to free himself.
Cherry slipped off, but managed to grab the edge of the table to avoid falling.
“Wear off you stupid potion!” Cherry exclaimed as her grip began to slip, “I didn’t brew you to be ten times as effective and last this long!”
Cherry’s grip couldn’t withstand Ace’s excitement, causing her to plummet into the forest of a carpet below.
“At least he has a carpeted floor and not hardwood,” Cherry groaned as she tried to get back onto her feet.
However as she did so, Ace got a game over much to anyone’s dismay.
“Ah darnit!” Ace gritted as he slammed his fist into the couch, “I was right there! I was at the final stretch!”
He punched the couch again to let out a little more steam.
“Please tell me this’ll be over soon,” Rhys said completely dazed.
Ace took his feet off of the table (Rhys now glued to his heel) and SLAMMED them both into the floor… crushing Cherry under the opposing foot now.
“ACK!!!” Cherry exclaimed as she tried to squeeze out, “Why does it feel like he’s doing this on purpose?!” “Grah!” Ace pouted, “Now I gotta redo that fight all over again.”
Ace leaned over and devoured the last of his fudge and chugged the remainder of his milk.
“This isn’t gonna end well,” Rhys thought, “Well, for Ace.”
Ace grumbled as he restarted the fight. Cherry is still trying to break free though.
“Just gotta watch out for the desperation attack,” he said as he took a deep breath, “Then we’re all good.”
Ace continued his fight with the utmost concentration and focus.
Twenty minutes later…
Ace was back at the final phase after dying at it again and again a few times, now confident he has the knowledge he needs to win.
“Final stretch once again,” Ace said as he took a deep breath, “Let’s do this!”
Ace went all in during the boss fight while Cherry and Rhys began to feel a little… strange.
“Oh geez what’s going on now?” Rhys groaned as his stomach began to feel all queasy. “About time this stuff started to wear off,” Cherry groaned.
The two former bugs then began to slowly grow, Ace not noticing it for a brief moment before having to pause his game.
“What’s going on down ther-” he began before having the awkward realization with what he saw.
After a few minutes the two were back to normal size. Cherry’s head under the table and Rhys looking completely braindead.
“Wh-When did you two get there?!” Ace panicked. “Oh I don’t know, when you picked up the stupid test tube maybe?!” Cherry exclaimed furiously.
Cherry bonked her head under the table for a moment before furiously swatting at Ace.
“How many times do I have to tell you to NOT mess around with my lab when I’m not in there!” she exclaimed, “Rhys and I nearly died because we were trying to get your attention!”
Rhys awkwardly scooted away while Cherry scolded Ace with an explanation on everything that happened.
“O-Okay I’m sorry” Ace stuttered, “I-I just thought I’d clean up!” “Yeah, and you should know that I NEVER forget to shoot you a text warning if I can help it!” Cherry replied.
Rhys awkwardly headed for the door as Cherry finally began to calm down.
“I’m gonna put a trap door on my lab entrance. Key pin and everything,” she sighed as she looked at Rhys, “I am NOT risking that again.”
Cherry stomped off towards Rhys with another sigh.
“Well now we're going out for dinner AND picking up the parts I need for the door,” she sighed. “C-Can we grab dinner first?” Rhys awkwardly squeaked as his stomach growled. “Okay fine,” Cherry replied.
Ace awkwardly sat there while Rhys headed for the stairs.
“Oh and before you ask, you’re solo on your homework tonight,” Cherry remarked. “Aw come on!” Ace whined, “I’m sorry sis! I didn’t se-”
Cherry slammed the door shut with Ace letting out a loud, “eep,” and a little jump.
“You know you didn’t have to be THAT harsh with him,” Rhys squeaked as Cherry followed him. “Eh, maybe I was a bit harsh,” Cherry shrugged, “But he did nearly throw you into a trash bin.”
They headed for the front door as soon as they hit the first floor.
“O-Okay yeah true,” Rhys blushed as he opened the door, “But I’ll at least pick him up a burger.” “fine by me,” she shrugged, “But if you are, make sure there’s no tomato, onion, or pickles on it. He HATES those.”
They stepped outside and closed the door behind them.
“D-Duly noted,” Rhys blushed, “That j-just means more for me!”
They headed out for the evening after their… bizarre afternoon. Both VERY thankful that they could finally stop looking at glasses the size of buildings and not experiencing an earthquake every few steps...
