A DUDE I MADE WHO HAS ACTUALLY HAS THOUGHT PUT INTO HIM
Basically, it's your average Native American kind of story. EXCEPT WITH NAGAS.
The Salanar tribe lived and thrived on a secluded island never known to man (or fur) for what seemed like since the beginning of time. War was not unknown to these tribes, as they fought ceaselessly amongst themselves for resources such as food and building materials. Many of the different tribe's warriors discovered their own inner power during pilgrimages, enchanting their weapons. It was a simple, if harsh life really, until they were finally discovered by modern man/furry.
Invaded only a few weeks after being discovered, all tribes of naga on the island were caught by surprise. The fight lasted a long time all the same, the naga had crude magic and found the secret to shapeshifting into a quetzalcoatl monster during these times, but ultimately they were doomed to fail, far outnumbered and far outgunned. Some were taken captive, the fighters were outright killed and those that escaped found modern civilization, or died getting there. Some of those that did get away couldn't handle the change of society, not to mention the scenery and chose to off themselves. The others who did try to integrate themselves as upstanding members of society often found it difficult, coming from violence-oriented lives. It took quite a bit of getting used to, to find out you're the bigger man, yet can't have all you wanted, so many arrests were made, until they finally got the message and started to at the least cope.
Not much else to say really, the idea behind the tribe is they're a cross between aztec and Native American cultures (aztec architecture kinda dealie, but keeping the Native american history)
The story behind Basanth (and his tribe, the Salanar tribe) is he was a warrior in one of the first tribes to have been discovered. He fought back the initial onslaught, but got captured. He did break free after many weeks of torment to find his way to the city and has been trying to integrate himself into modern culture since. His inner power is to control his size for a period of time, before being put into a weakened state and shrinking down gradually. Every inner power has its strengths and weaknesses, so the naga are always sure to try and not use it unless under extreme circumstances.
Most pics of this guy will probably be before they got invaded because IT'S MORE FUN THAT WAY
