Continent
Leffar - Leffar is the second largest continent in the world, and is mostly covered in a harsh desert with oases and mesas spread between large stretches of desert wasteland. A small portion of the eastern side of the continent is a verdant jungle, similar to The Kingdom of Beasts in Retal. Located where the eastern and western hemispheres meet along the equator.Region
The Serpent Coast - Stretching the length of the Leffar desert’s most hospitable coast, lays the Serpent Coast, named for the monstrous snakes that are said to once have inhabited the desert, shown by a skeleton of one of the serpents laying near Serpent Town.Cities
Serpent Town - Founded by settlers from Everton, Serpent Town was founded nearby the remains of a gigantic serpent that scratches several miles. The city is one of the few places where humans exist in Leffar, and is a common trading partner to Everton with treasures from the desert.
Essana - One of the native settled port cities that dot the coast of Leffar, Essana has established itself as a moderately sized trading port, competing for business with Serpent Town. While many humans prefer to do business in Serpent Town, many Leffar natives will keep to the familiar comforts of Essana.
Teka Oasis - The largest oasis along the Serpent Coast, Teka Oasis gathered quite a large number of Leffar natives to settle around the sweet spot in a mostly dangerous and harsh homeland. The Oasis is fed directly by the Ocean, however large trade shipments are mostly impossible due to the rocky formations at the mouth of the river.
Lonely Sands - While the coastal cities of Leffar adopt a more traditional style, acclimated to life near bodies of water, the inner desert cities such as Lonely Sands have needed to adapt to the harsh conditions of the desert. Founded fairly recently, Lonely Sands has a reputation of housing many gunslingers and bounty hunters. A place where a bullet is more likely to solve a dispute than words.
Badstone - Badstone was once very much like it’s neighbor, Lonely Sands, but was a target of constant bandit attacks due to its proximity to many ruins the bandits would take residence in. The settlers eventually grew tired of the constant attacks and threats to their lives, instead moving to the relatively safer Lonely Sands. Since then, Badstone has reopened, but under bandit control. The town has fallen into disrepair, serving as little more than a camp and a place to stash goods from the bandit’s raids.Notable Locations
Forgotten Town - Many times through the history of Leffar, cities would be raised around sources of water, such as the lonely oases that dot the land. However, if water consumption is kept unchecked, the cities will eventually fall to drought and collapse. Sand covered towns like this are a grim reminder.
The Serpent Temple - Several times during the history of The Serpent Coast, people have come to worship the giant serpents that once roamed the sand as deities. From small cults in secret, to large gatherings in public. What these cults claim the serpents to represent varies from iteration to iteration, but they’ve all used the temple at some point. But as time goes on, the temple slowly erodes away and is buried by the relentless sand of Leffar.
Dragon Ridge - The sight of ships in the desert is a rare sight, be it airship or sailing ship, as most stop in Essana or Serpent Town for trading. And by air, it’s far safer to go around the desert than through it. However, Dragon Ridge has always had a dragon inhabit it, sweeping ships out of the water or air. Dragging all of their cargo and riches to the ridge for its own hoard. A brave few have dared to try and take from the hoard, and fewer have returned.
The Great Cactus - One of the few places with plentiful plant life in Leffar, The Great Cactus acts much in the same way as many of the other magic trees of La Malva. Acting as a conduit for magic and breathing life into the harsh land. It’s due to the cactus’ presence that the metal used for the weapons forged by the natives, deadlier than flintlock, only function in Leffar.
The Unknown Temple - While the acolytes of the Serpent Temple rise from nothing every so often, not every temple is fortunate enough to receive such a fate. This is only one of many ruined temples from forgotten religions, lost in the sands.
The Forgotten King - Not much is known about the enigmatic statue sitting in the mesa near Lonely Sands and Badstone. The massive statue of a man, sitting in a throne, lays among the ruins of what was once a city. But no bones or other evidence of its existence remain.
Pyramid of Queen Ashis - Once a proud and beautiful queen of a thriving kingdom among the sands, Queen Ashis had fallen for vanity and obsession of preserving her beauty in old age. Making a pact with a demon of pride, she was able to stay young, however the pact had turned her into a Medusa. With her subjects turned to stone in her presence, her kingdom slowly crumbled. Now she remains alone in her pyramid, stalking the halls for intruders.
Isle of the Damned - Few places have the corruption of undeath caused by The Rift Walker, and fewer still match the magnitude of The Deadlands in Retal. However the strongholds of the lich are found in many places, for what dark purpose these fortresses exist is unknown. But the dead are always restless in their presence.
