If your browser/MP3 player doesn't read the title correctly, it's "PI-ssacaglia". And no, that's not a typo.
This is a Passacaglia whose primary theme is the first digits of the mathematical constant, Pi. (3.14159265) for string quintet.
There are also two other variations in the piece derived from the digits after the first ten in Pi, but I won't tell you which ones. :P

I see what you did set in the scale of Gm, You gave the Tonic 1 and the supertonic 2 and so forth and so you used PI as your score and composed around that XD WOW........
I read that you used a VST for this =/ shucks... I was hoping that they were real after reading your front page that you would write for thouse who can play I thought you had borrowed there recordings of themself to put together your pieces. <.< though have you ever did that? And what is your DAW?

All my music is written for live performance. It's not meant to survive as a digital file for its whole life. But I have no contacts with musicians locally, so I'm kinda at an impasse in that regard. And I have had live performances of my music.
nightstride performed my "Asterisms III (X.N.)" for his recital at CalArts last year, and I wrote an organ processional for my grandmother's funeral 10 years ago.

That last part is sorta sad =(
I compose all my music with software and paper so I can see the score and go from there.
Sadly I myself don't have a full orchestra on standby or a band to just hand over the music sheets and play. So I use hardware and synthesizers to fill in for that.
Because I use hardware to play, I can play all my songs live and that is something that is what I intend for all my music.
For the soul porpoise of sharing my music with others I record all my music with my computer using Sonar LE. With this program I can either create midi or audio tracks.
(though I use another program to create the sheet music itself)
From your front page it almost made it sound like your were attempting what Youtube was doing with its "Symphony" where it took multiple recordings from multiple people and pieced it all together.

I really love your concept hun! It certainly makes for a quite interesting melody!
Did you use that as a basis for your assigning of the numbers? And with that said.. how far along in PI did you go to complete the melody?
I see you used the melodic minor scale for your concept.. Very nice. How would you interpret
Ab,Cb(there is no symbol on my keyboard for natural lol), Db,E(nat), and F#?
Did you just assign the pitches to the numbers within a 10th range?
Im sorry for all the questions *blushes* just a shy malagaress here.
I really liked it!

only the bass line is based on Pi. I used 3.14159265 (Bb-G-C-G-D-A'-A-Eb-D. I went along the digits until I found a spot that i could logically make a nice cadence.
The main theme itself had no chromaticism in itself. Everything else just evolved as the variations were written. It's the way my later passacaglias have been writen, in that I start with something very tonal and classical, and slowly evolve into something dissonant and chromatic.
And honestly, I don't mind the questions. It's nice to have someone ask about the theory behind what I write. It makes me try and remember it. :P
