So exactly 4 nights ago, after work, I came home and wondered why it is that most characters with big beards in comics are bad-guys. There's some heroes with beards, but not many, and on a whim, I decided to see if I could make someone heroic looking, sporting the slicked back hair and beard we're used to seeing on the other side. Say Hello to Bio-Magnus: Champion of Gaia, Hero of Earth!

Bio:
Born in the 15th Century, the man who would become Gaia's champion, was little more than a mercenary; if not of formidable reputation. Hired to protect an explorer by the name of Velasco De Sá, whom had believed he'd discovered a land of riches in old Norse Texts, Bio-Magnus set to sea on an ill-fated voyage of which he'd be the sole survivor. Beset by a terrible storm, the Cog broke apart and was swallowed by the unforgiving ocean, leaving Bio-Magnus to attempt to swim for shore. Somehow making it to the uncharted island, the mercenary was left to wander aimlessly for months, under siege from enormous beasts before finding a natural oasis of unmatched beauty at the heart of the island. The food was he plucked from each plant was pure and good; unblemished by famine or drought. The meat of the beasts of this inner garden were healthy, rich, and more tender than anything he'd imagined even Nobles had tasted, and despite the salt sea which hid the island, the coolness of the lakes and ponds saw him never thirst or sick.

It was not until he found a Sacred Pool deeper within his utopian garden, bathing within its warm waters, that his incredible powers truly began to manifest. Once touched by this spring, his body seemed never to tire. His strength returned to his prime, before surpassing it one hundred fold, as every scar and every malady left him. With every passing day, of every passing year, the former mercenary grew mightier, swifter, and formed a much deeper connection to the Biosphere around him. Restored by the fountain, Bio-Magnus would learn over the next hundred years in his Island home, to channel and summon the energies which flowed between the Earth and the many ecosystems entwined with it. Unlocking more of the arcane knowledge from within his hidden oasis, learning the true laws of nature, how to call upon the forces of nature itself, and the interrelationships which formed the Soul of Living-Earth, Gaia, impressed with the man, met with who she would name as Magnus of the Biome of Mankind.

In return for her teachings, his new-found vitality, and the incredible powers he could wield, he would prove his chivalry to her through actions. He was not to rule man, but teach them and protect them, among them, preserve the natural orders which he now understood, and defend her world from the perils which lay beyond her reach over the course of a hundred thousand lifetimes. Returning him to mankind, over his centuries as benevolent Guardian and Teacher, Bio-Magnus lived as a Knight, Teacher, Philosopher, Researcher, and many countless other hundred things; never using his power to dominate others, never allowing ego to blind him of his oath, and never neglecting the gifts of life around him.

Mirthful and jolly, in this modern age, Bio-Magnus works as a doctor outside of his role as Earth's greatest hero, and lives comfortably through his savings and keen investments. His costumed persona, admittedly, arose from his general amusement and youthful excitement at the concept which was introduced to him by a child after seeing him returning from the gym in his exercising pants. As more super-powered individuals began to emerge, Bio-Magnus rapidly became more active in his Super-Hero role, and set the stage for many who followed after him. More often than not, Bio-Magnus will attempt to de-escalate and disarm a situation, trying to lead by example for his other heroes as the world tries to adapt to the new age of Superheroes it's rapidly entering.
