Colored some REALLY old sketches I had as far back as 2018... because why not. All of these are characters for an original story I wrote called War Hound, which is basically a modern/futuristic retelling of The Odyssey with animals. Anyone who followed me on my DA would probably recognize these characters
From left to right:
-Tiberius (German Shepherd) is the attack dog, leader, and protagonist, and obviously the Odysseus of my story. Intelligent but arrogant, he's the one always coming up with strategic ideas in situations. He's the only survivor among his pack at the end of the story.
-Phoenix (Golden Retriever) is the bomb detector and the moral support who always keeps his teammates' spirits high when things aren't working out. He's the last of the group to die and was shot by a farmer after killing one of his cows out of desperation and starvation (a reference to all of Odysseus' men being drowned after they ate the sun god Helios' cattle against his orders)
-Sage (pit bull) is the enemy tracker and is the jerk with a heart of gold. He always has a rough, disciplined, but confident personality. He died in a heroic sacrifice saving his friend Axel from a flash flood, which was a reference to the sentient whirlpool Charybdis
-Javier (English Mastiff) is the guard dog and the calm elder of the group. A very powerful dog despite his old age, but is the first of the pack to die after collapsing from exhaustion with his old age catching up to him.
-Axel (black lab) is the ambulance dog and medic of the group. He serves as the voice of reason and looks at everything realistically, always slowing his teammates down whenever he feels they do something overly risky. He dies after being bit by one of six venomous adders, who are a reference to Scylla the six-headed serpent
