<Poké Combat Academy, Main Building Hallway - Day of Decision, 3:00 PM>
The crowds gather around as the results of the SECT auditions have been posted up, eager to see if they managed to make it or not. One such student is Sally Sealight, and the Mareep is stuck in the back, though she makes her attempts to get to the front to see the results herself. As the crowd dissipates a little, she manages to make her way up to the list of names posted up on the wall. She looks a bit nervous as she looks over the results.
And she finds her name near the bottom of the list. Sally blinks a few times, looking at the name to make sure she isn't misreading. Wow... I actually made it... thought Sally, who looks surprised to see the result before she's taken out of her trance by a shout.
"HEY SALLY!" Yuichi makes his way toward the shrinking crowd, the Farfetch'd having spotted the Mareep. He looks over to the list, then back to Sally with a smile. "I see you made it! Great! It looks like all that training is paying off!" Sally rubs the back of her head, laughing a bit nervously while Yuichi continues. "Now then, just keep at it! You've only trained up, now you have to follow through!" He looks back at the list. "Hm... Oh hey, I know a few of these names. I know I've faced a few here, like Karma here. She's quite feisty!"
Yuichi clears his throat then looks back at Sally. "So yeah, you have your work cut out for you, Sally! Make me proud!" Sally blinks again, then speaks up. "Uh... you're gonna watch, right?" The Farfetch'd hesitates a bit before answering. "Eh...... sorry, I can't. Dad's taking me back home pretty soon."
Sally sighs a bit, looking down as she does. "Oh... Now that I remember, Kenji said he was going home as well..." Yuichi smiles again, putting a hand on Sally's shoulder (withdrawing it not long after from a slight static shock) before he says one more thing. "I'm sure you'll go far, Sally! And I'll see if someone can record everything for me, okay? Anyhow, see ya later, I gotta pack up what I've got." Yuichi waves, walking off as he does while Sally looks back at the list. "Well, at least dad's watching, right?"
<Sealight Family Abode, Dining Room - Day of Decision, 7:00 PM>
The Sealight family has gathered around the dining table to partake in their usual dinnertime. However, it seems one of the three family members looks to be somewhat upset.
"Wait, the first round is that soon!?"
Sally starts chewing on a bit of salad as her father speaks up, reeling back a bit from his shout.
"Sally, why didn't you say so sooner?"
Sally makes an audible gulp. "I... I didn't know until today..."
Her father sighs, snagging a piece of steak off his plate and chewing a bit before swallowing. "I don't know if I'll be able to make that day, Sally. I'll try, but that's the day I'm working overtime, and I need to do this..." He continues to eat away at his meal while Sally's mother speaks up. "What about asking that Stantler friend of yours to watch? I'm sure she would love to."
"Uh... right!" Sally quickly finishes the rest of her salad, then makes her way out of her seat and pushes it in. "Thanks for the dinner!" She then rushes up to the room, grabbing her phone and entering in a number. The phone rings a few times before a voice from the other end comes through, which sally quickly responds to. "Are you there, Maple?" She pauses though, as she notices it's just Maple's voice mail message.
"Oh..." Sally waits for the beep before she starts to speak up. "Maple? It's Sally. I just wanted to know if you'd want to watch my fight coming up... It's soon, and the details are posted up at school on the SECT flyers. Thanks, if you can, and goodbye." Sally then sets down her phone and sits down, slumping a bit as she does. "I hope she answers..."
<Poké Combat Academy, Arena - Day of Round 1, 1:57 PM>
Having done a bit of research, Sally mulls over the situation. Her opponent is Candice Baker, known to her friends as Sugar. A junior, she was held back a year due to academic circumstances. "I don't know if that means she can fight as well as a senior or not, though..." Sally looks visibly worried, clutching at her metronome necklace before shaking her head.
Sally then looks at the crowd from the sidelines, trying to make out anyone she could recognize within it. Having already trained up some during the passing time and decked out in her battle outfit, she looks ready to take on whoever comes her way. She keeps looking for a bit longer before she's called to the center of the arena by the referee.
"On this side, SALLY SEALIGHT!"
She makes her way in on the call, still looking around until she focuses towards the center while the referee continues, motioning away from Sally. "And on this side... CANDICE BAKER!"
Soon, a Gardevoir makes her way to the center of the arena, wearing a dark red tanktop and blue jeans. She looked stern, holding on to a pair of blackglasses by one of the arms. "So you're my first challenger? You don't look so hard." The Gardevior smirks. "By the way, call me..." She moves to put her blackglasses on, fitting them in place. "...Sugar."
Sally tilts her head a bit as Sugar makes her introduction. "Uh... nice to meet you then, Sugar." The Gardevoir doesn't answer, though, and soon the referee speaks up once again.
"Now then, I'm sure you two know the rules, so are both of you ready?" Sugar nods nonchalantly, while Sally quickly nods. "Yes sir." The referee then stands back a bit. "Then it that case, LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!"
----
Sally quickly summons rings of light around her, converging to safeguard her with a pink glow. This proves effective from the get-go, as Sugar momentarily lifts her glasses a bit to attempt (and fail) to lull Sally to sleep with a psychic glow. With the safeguard up, Sally takes mental note of hypnosis, while at the same time getting into stance. She sets her legs up to brace herself from any incoming action while putting her wrists back to back, spreading her palms out as she does. And what comes from those palms are red and green lights, spiraling in a compressed double helix formation toward Sugar. The Gardevoir attempts to form an launch a green energy ball at the Mareep, but gets hit dead-on by the signal beam, skidding back a few feet and redirecting her attack upwards, flying off harmlessly.
Sally then moves back a bit to gain some distance, a tick coming from her metronome necklace as she keeps her hands in place to launch another signal beam. However, Sugar starts up a sprint and evades the attack, closing in on Sally as she runs a spiral around her. The Gardevoir also makes a quick clap as she does, making an encore that forces Sally's hands to glow red and green. Regardless, Sally quickly pivots and swings around, unleashing another signal beam right in front of Sugar to intercept. The Gardevoir attempts to skid and change direction, but just as she didn't expect an intercept so quickly, she takes the full brunt of the attack. She braces herself as she does, skidding back a bit, then runs straight at Sally. Thanks to the distance Sugar managed to close during her spiral run, she quickly makes it up to Sally, launching and connecting a jumping kick that sends the Mareep tumbling down the arena.
"Stronger than I thought. But I... am strongest." Sugar points at Sally after her one-liner, forming another green, glowing energy ball while Sally makes her way up. But despite her outward expression, her thoughts aren't nearly as composed. That hurt more than the first one. How did she manage that? She fires the energy ball off at Sally as she's up, hitting her directly and once again preventing her from firing a signal beam, although she takes it better than she does the roundhouse kick. The ticking noise from Sally's metronome grows ever louder as she gets knocked out of her attempts, and soon Sugar notices the sound. That sound... That just might be it!
Sugar makes her next move fast, weaving and rushing toward Sally while firing more energy balls at her. Sally manages to avoid as she gets up though, her dodging of the projectiles clumsy but effective. However, the mareep doesn't manage to counterattack until right as Sugar starts swerving to her direct left. Instead of firing a concentrated beam, Sally's back-to-back hands create an outward-expanding cone of red and green lights, covering an area wide enough to catch the Gardevoir during her tricky motion . Sugar stumbles back a bit and starts to kneel down, panting as she's taken a signal beam much, much stronger than the first one. However, she grins...
"I see what you're doing now..." Sugar takes off her blackglasses, tossing them behind her as she's kneeling. Sally keeps her hands pointed toward Sugar as she does... and she soon finds the blackglasses warped right over her eyes, the sudden trick Sugar used disorienting her as she hesitates to launch her attack. Instead, she jumps back and takes off the glasses, soon noticing that Sugar has her metronome necklace, and an energy ball pointed at her face. The Mareep's safeguard glow also fades, all while Sugar delivers a simple word. "Bang."
Sally puts her wrists back together, sidestepping at the trigger of Sugar's word. She starts up another signal beam, but as she does, Sugar redirects her aim and hits Sally dead on. The Mareep manages to keep standing with some proper footwork, but that doesn't last long as Sugar soon closes the small gap between the two, landing a swift punch to the gut and then a roundhouse kick that sends Sally back a fair distance, though she once again falls to her knee from exhaustion after this. Sally slowly scrambles to her feet this time, the combination attack knocking the wind (and most of the energy) out of her. Once she's up though, Sugar keeps her energy usage low by continuing to launch energy balls in kneeling position, taking advantage of the power of the ever-ticking metronome. Sally stumbles around to avoid, swerving around in an overly clumsy and inefficient manner as her fatigue takes over. She manages to evade two shots, but the third manages to hit her in the leg, forcing Sally to wince in pain and land straight onto her rear.
Weakened, Sally pants as she's on the ground, looking every bit as tired as she is. Sugar, looking about equally fatigued from her constant shooting, takes off the metronome necklace and grasps the metronome part in her hand. "I think... it's time to finish this..." Sugar tosses it up slightly, then catches. "...with a bang." The metronome soon starts to get darker as the Gardevoir prepares a fling attack, which does not go unnoticed by Sally. The Mareep's eyes widen in panic, and she musters as much energy as she can to get an arm pointed towards Sugar and launch a different attack. "No... don't... DON'T!" A big, brown, crystalline energy gem appears in front of her hand, and in a fraction of a second it launches straight at the Gardevoir. As Sugar winds up for the fling, the power gem hits Sugar right in the chest, hitting her hard and knocking her back far. The metronome also flies up, to Sally's horror, but lands without so much as a crack. Sugar attempts to make her way up, her arms and legs wobbling as she does, while Sally bobs around a bit, starting to lose focus as her body attempts to make her fall.
"This isn't the end... of... Su...gar..."
The Gardevoir falls after she utters her last line, out cold and out of the match. The referee, having watched everything from afar, soon makes his way back to call the match.
"The winner of this battle is... SALLY SEALIGHT!"
Sally's vision and hearing start to fade a bit as the referee comes in though, and she faints, falling on her side not long after she's claimed victor.
<Poké Combat Academy - Arena Exterior, 3:00 PM>
"There you are, Sally!"
A tall Stantler makes her way over to the Mareep, the latter a bit jittery after the match and firmly holding her metronome necklace. "What? M-Maple?" Maple speaks up again once Sally notices her. "I see the arena crew healed you up well. Nice battle, by the way. Or at least the end of it. I, well, kinda got your message late. So how are you feeling there?" Sally looks down a bit, looking somewhat uncertain of how to answer. "I-I don't know... I n-never actually had a full match with an upperclassman before, it was tough, and..."
Maple quickly scoops Sally up for a hug, sparks flying off the latter. "And you won! Honestly, I'm finding it hard to believe, but you did it!" Sally blinks, her jittering lessening as she does. Maple then puts her down, clearing her throat. "So yeah, how about we celebrate?" Sally looks down to her metronome, then back to Sally. "Uh... sure! By the way, did you see my dad at all?" The Stantler hesitates a bit, scratching her head. "Eh... I didn't see him around, no." Sally sighs a bit, but her arm is quickly grabbed by Maple. "So where to? Oran Julius? Or that italian place down the road? My treat!" Sally laughs a bit weakly, smiling. "Oh, you can choose... Don't worry about it..."
