This is a commission that didn't work out -- family trouble on the customer's side. He did send a small gift to make up for it, so I'm not called a pox on him this time. I left the work unfinished for some time, and finally decided that I liked the drawing enough to finish it. The art is based on a series of children's books called The Littles ... or maybe the original is the TV cartoon? In any case, the idea is quite similar to the much early children's books called The Borrowers. I copied the designs carefully from the TV show. I would imagine that having one's tail clipped like that would sting.

I was a fan of this show. The Littles was an american knockoff of the borrowers and was a series of novels for kids before it got animated by DIC in the early 80s. I have always loved the Borrowers and Borrowers-type concepts, and the Littles were the first ones of this type that I encountered. They were more mouselike and had tails, while the Mary Norton Borrowers were "as like to humans as makes no difference".
The trope of "tiny humans/anthros making dwellings, towns and vehicles out of castoff human detritus" has been a favorite of mine for many years

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Littles The book was first, then the cartoon. Funny enough, there was contemporary book by a Russian children writer, though in that case "littles" were kind of "warranty spirits" of various devices, e.g. of radio receiver, TV set.. a grumpy bearded guy Buhre, named after Pavel Buhre, was a guardian of grandma tower clock :P
