Mercury knows that training sometimes in the winter season can catch you a old especially when you are not in the right environment. So he did everything from taking protein and gaining shakes to pills and vitamins since his lab was being sterilized due to regulations which means he couldn't just use Gaia to bulk up. He woke in the spring looking down at himself noticing that he's gotten a little chunky. There is such a thing as overdoing it and he took it to an astounding level.
