they were laminated, but over the years that lamination has worn, cracked, and eventually partially fell off - and in doing so has taken chunks of the papyrus with it. I suppose this in part has to do with the uneven structure of papyrus which results in bending to occur at the same spots repeatedly (where the papyrus is thinnest) Right now they are reduced to approximately 2/3 of their original length and thus sometimes end up being swallowed by the book. But on the bright side i know one particular artist who can make replacements for me when the time comes. *boops your nose* You.
Oh no that sucks. :( I think I'd have been afraid to use anything like that, for fear of it falling apart. >.> Well, you know where to find me when you need new ones. :3
(I have a really old set of The Hobbit and LotR books from the early 70's that have seen better days too, I've considered trying to at least laminate the covers so they'd have a little more durability. But they are just regular paper, not papyrus. lol)

I knew from the get-go that these bookmarks wouldn't last forever, but I bought them nonetheless - in part because papyrus is part of Egyptian history, and in part because I wanted to enjoy that memory while it lasts.
As for books that have seen better days, I know exactly what you mean. I have a few books that have ...suffered a bit from use over the years. And a few others I am concerned about this happening down the line. Roleplaying-rulebooks in particular. (with the crown jewel of my collection being a set of rulebooks on a space-opera-themed system called Alternity that was discontinued about 20 years ago) Those are nearly irreplacable these days.

Her hair is definitely it's own character. lol I don't do much different with hers but I think it pops more because of the color, the red is pretty aggressive. (Well, and she usually has the glitter in hers but that's more of a faerie-dust thing.) The shading is more obvious on darker hair where the white highlights can show up better against the main color.
