How this Korail (South Korea's passenger rail system) GE G-8 export diesel unit turned up at National Railway Equipment in Riverdale, IL, is anyone's guess. What a crazy find! My guess is that Korail traded it in to GE for more modern equipment, but why is it in Illinois, of all places? It's abandoned for now, and can't really be salvaged for US-compatible parts, so...
Also: See the Korail logo? Look familiar? I'll give you three guesses... =P

Oh god, I haven't seen that paint scheme since I visited Korea but in '98. Man seeing those colors and that rip off Amtrack logo (I think) brings back some memories. I have a photo some where of with what I think is a GP-something #4215 in the exact same colors. Thanks for posting this, it helped remind me of some memories that I would have never remembered if it weren't for this.
The Brazil purchased 50 G8s while they were in production to replace the steam locomotives of the metric(1 meter or 1000mm) gauge, on the contrary of the large gauge that already used the U-Boats, the Brazil between the 80s at the 90s purchased too much of the north american used U-boats and dash 7s today with the purchase of 370 new AC44is(produced since 2008 at the present) and the new SD70ACe i don't know how many units whe have in Brazil but the first company to order some units of this locomotives has the Eldorado Papel e Celulose in 2012 and the ALL(América Latina Logística) and VLI(Valor da Logística Integrada) in the beginning of this year, probably with these purchases the U-boats and dash 7s will replace the G8s G12s GL8 and others locomotives of the 50s and 60s who still running on small railroads, the dash 7s and Uboats who will to the metric gauge railroads will be reconfigured in BB-BB trucks, the G8s probably will be scrapped.
The main locomotive of Brazil is the C30-7(too much U30C has purchased by the MRS Logística and renamed C30-7), 10 super 7s are in operation untill today in the MRS.
But what the hell is the F-M units(whe don't have these locos in Brazil)
