Thus, the six wolves travelled on a borrowed Quinjet to their first destination: Nome. Balto had joined his daughter Aleu back to the forest, and was trying to start a new life in the wolf pack to which Aleu belonged now. Grey, Freddy, Alpha, both White Fangs and Feifei showed up and tried to convince Balto to help them in the time heist, so they could bring back everyone, including Jenna, Boris, Muk and Luk. However, upon hearing their plan, Balto believed that sounded like a crazy idea, and refused to help, not wanting to risk what he had left. He thought that maybe starting a new life in the forest with his daughter and other wolves wouldn’t be so bad. So the wolves had no other option than to leave Balto and Aleu in the forest, and go search for other wolves to join their party.
They travelled to Jasper Park, Canada, where they found Kate and Humphrey, who were struggling to live a normal life now that their pups were no longer with them. However, when they were told about the time heist, both did trust them, and hope returned to their hearts. So they entered the Quinjet and joined the team.
Next, they travelled to Japan, where they found a lonely, depressed Gabu, who had spent a long time without his best friend Mei, and feeding on herbivore animals, as always, didn’t help. The wolves arrived and told Gabu about their plan to travel to the past and retrieve the Infinity Stones so they could bring the vanished ones, and Mei, back. At first, Gabu didn’t believe them, but as the wolves were preparing to leave in their Quinjet, he remembered all of the good times he had with Mei by his side, and quickly reconsidered the idea. Thus, he was welcome in the team.
Then, the wolves travelled to Ireland, where they found Robyn, Mebh and Moll, leading their wolf pack on another hunt. They told the two WolfWalkers about the time travel mission, and though at first Robyn and Mebh were skeptical, they were told by Moll:
“You must go with them, children. Perhaps they’re right. This could be the only way to bring Robyn’s father back, along with everyone else who was disintegrated.”
“But, mom!” Mebh said. “The pack! We must lead them!”
“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of them while you are gone.” Moll said.
“Okay. Thanks, mom!”
“Don’t worry, mistress. I’ll bring back my father, I promise!” Robyn said.
“I know you will, my child.”
When they preparing to return to the Avengers Headquarters, Gabu said:
“Wow, we’re already many here. Is nobody else coming with us?”
“Ummm, I think not.” Humphrey said.
“We tried to convince Balto and Aleu to come with us, but he refused.” Grey said.
“What? No!” Gabu said. “A good wolf never leaves a packmate behind! And for this mission, we need all help we can get!”
Gabu insisted them to return to Nome so they could try again and convince Balto to join them.
Meanwhile, at the forests of Nome, it was already nighttime. Balto was sleeping by his daughter’s side, when he remembered, the warmth of sleeping by Jenna’s side, the relaxing sound of Boris mopping the floor of his home, Muka and Luk playing with him... In short, he missed his friends and family. Suddenly, Nava, the wise old leader of the wolf pack woke him up.
“Missing your home, aren’t you?” he said.
“Honestly… yes.” Balto said.
“There are some that, even though they must make changes in their lives, they just can’t get over leaving their beloved home and family.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“Do you want to see them again?” Nava asked him.
“Yes. But what they told me sounds too loony. Time travelling? I don’t know if it’s even possible.”
“Oh, it is.”
“How do you know?”
“A close friend of mine told me everything. I also know she is related to you.”
Aniu appeared in front of Balto and next to Nava.
“Mother…!”
“Hi, son.” Aniu said.
“As long as one persists on one desire, there may be others that will help him to achieve it.” Nava said.
“What do you mean?” Balto asked.
“Help is on the way, son.” Aniu told him.
The other wolves arrived on their Quinjet. Aleu woke up to the sound of the Quinjet landing.
“What’s going on here?” she said.
“You again! Believe it or not, I’m happy to see you.” Balto said. “So, how are we gonna do this time travel thing, again?”
“With magic butterflies!” Feifei told him.
“And you were wondering why it sounded crazy to me… However, I believe my mother, so I must believe you, too. All right, I’m going.”
“I’m coming with you, dad.” Aleu said.
“It could be dangerous.” Balto said.
“Dad, I’ve been through a lot, and yet, I’m ok. Why would this mission be so different?”
“It’s just… I don’t want to lose you, too.”
“I know what you feel, Balto.” Gabu said. “I lost a very special friend of mine, Mei. He was a goat. I know it sounds absurd. A wolf befriending its natural prey? However, when it’s true friendship, there are no limits. And nothing’s gonna stop me from bringing Mei back! I’m pretty sure you are capable of doing the same about your wife and your friends. What would they say?”
Suddenly, Balto remembered what Boris had told him:
“A dog cannot lead this journey alone, but maybe, a wolf can.”
This phrase was enough to inspire him.
“Don’t worry, dad. Together, we’ll overcome anything that gets in our way!”
“I’ll go with you, too.” Nava said.
“Are you sure, Nava?” Balto asked.
“But, your pack needs you!” Aleu asked.
“Don’t worry, child. I’m sure they can continue to live without me for a while.”
Aleu smiled in confidence, and allowed Nava to enter the Quinjet. Once every wolf was inside, they departed back to the Avengers Headquarters. At last, the team was complete. They were all ready for the mission.
When they arrived, Aniu greeted them again, and told them:
“I’m glad to see all of you wolves gathered here. But you need one more thing before you go time traveling. Clearly, you have no idea where the Infinity Stones were found, so I made contact with somebody who can help you…”
Then, she disappeared. Suddenly, a space capsule fell from the sky, and out came Cosmo, the Space Dog!
“Greeting, noble wolves.” Cosmo said to them. “By orders of Aniu, the white wolf, I’m here to give you instructions to find the Infinity Stones in the past.
First, you must find the Space Stone and the Mind Stone. One is inside a cosmic cube called the Tesseract, the other is inside the scepter of Thor’s treacherous brother, Loki, god of mischief. Luckily, you will find both stones at the same place in 2012, during the Battle of New York. At the Avengers Tower, both stones are under Loki’s custody. Oh, and watch out for the Chitauri.
Also in 2012, you must go to the Sanctum Sanctorum, where the Ancient One keeps the Time Stone inside an artefact called the Eye of Agamotto. Convince her to give it to you.
The man who once had me captive, Taneleer Tivaan, the Collector, had another of the Infinity Stones, the Reality Stone. Back in 2013, he received it from the Asgardians, so the stone, back then called the Aether, must be in their kingdom, Asgard. But be careful. I’ve heard Asgard was under attack by the Dark Elves. You must find Jane Foster, who, If I remember correctly, has the Aether inside her body. You must be silent and sneaky.
Now, to find the Power Stone you must travel to Morag, in 2014. Back in that year, the Collector received it from the Guardians of the Galaxy. You will find the stone inside the Orb, deep in a temple. But you will need Star Lord, leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy to guide you there. You mustn’t let anybody know about your presence.
And finally, also in 2014, you must find the Soul Stone, at Vormir… However, even I don’t know what to do to get the stone. But I’m sure you will find out.
Well, we’re done here. Now that you know your objectives, go, brave wolves, retrieve the Infinity Stones, and return here safe and sound. Good luck.”
Thus, wolves and Avengers, separately, prepared for the time heist. They had been equipped with space suits given to them by Cosmo, and divided in teams to search for the stones. This was the only chance to bring back their loved ones and half of the living beings of the universe, so there couldn’t be no mistakes. Each wolf was granted two tin cans full of magic butterflies. One to go and one to return. Once everyone was ready, they opened a tin can at the same time and let the butterflies surround them. In a flash of light, they were gone, each team travelling to a different point in time in order to retrieve the Infinity Stones.
