So, full disclosure, I drew this back in January. I actually think that this was the first thing I drew after I got my computer fixed (yanno, after it crashed back in October and set TCotC's release back by a few months).
I'm pretty sure this was just a practice/warm-up to see if I could draw Set from the front instead of just a 3/4 or side view, but this was also a joke I've had in the works for a while -- back when I launched the horrible 2018 draft of TCotC on my deviantArt, I was in deep with the "shotgun" approach to uploading content and was tossing around ideas of merchandise, t-shirts, etc. The idea of Set pulling a smug shrug with the caption "Osiris deserved it" was one of the most popular ideas on the TCotC Discord server, but I never actually got around to it.
I'm glad I actually got around to pulling off this joke, because I think the final image turned out great! This is what Set appears like when he's just vibing around the Duat (he wears that spooky skull getup when he addresses followers or visits the mortal realm), so you guys actually won't see him in this different getup until much much later in the TCotC narrative.
The reason I remember this picture even existed is that I was literally just sitting and thinking about getting to Set's first appearance in TCotC (which is coming way quicker than you might think) and went "wait a minute, did I even upload that one picture?"... So here we are. Whoops.

Osiris was a total douche, for sure. He got what was coming.
I've been waiting to see Set turn up, and now he's here I admit curiosity about the choice of making him canine given all the other depictions. Not a complaint, just a dragon's natural curiosity. Particularly because, well, he's my favourite. Anpu is definitely cute and sexy, but Set is the one I light candles to.

Set is my absolute favorite, too! I love this stupid furball.
I threw him in the "canine" category on this website because it's about the closest I can get to what I consider a sha/Set animal/Typhonic beast to be; for my rendition of the lore, a sha isn't really a dog, or a cat, or... any real creature, really. I've heard various theories on what shas might be -- a fellow Egyptology-loving friend of mine thinks they're aardvarks, another Classics student at my college suggested it's some kind of prehistoric animal, my paleontology professor indicated he thinks they're canines, a good portion of people think they're donkeys, and I've even seen renditions of Set showing him as a hyena. I finally settled on the "screw it, it's just some kind of mythical creature" angle after seeing all the general inconclusiveness around what they even are, and knew I had the chance to create something interesting on my own; I settled on depicting them as something caught in between the extremes of a dog, a cat, and an equine. Part of it comes from how I envisioned Set's character -- I wanted him to be a predatory animal of some kind with sharp teeth and claws to really sell the "bestial strength" thing going on with him, but I wanted him to look distinct and wacky enough so that he really did fall in with the general mysteriousness of shas and his own jackass-ness and whatnot.

I would like to offer you a hug, fellow Set-favourite-er! (I won't say 'worshipper': that might be a bit too far )
I once saw a picture of Set which intrigued me greatly as it gave him a rather draconic look. It was long ago, and I saw it on a website about khemet. It's rather coloured my perception of Him since then: I tend to see Him as a dragonish entity, with a pointed snout and those square-cut ears which could, one might suppose, be a representation of a crest. I like your take on His form, though I might respectfully raise an issue with Him just being bestial -- if I mistake your meaning, then I apologise. He always struck me as a fairly complex entity, and in some ways a little naive, given what Isis and Horus did to him. (I also have my firm beliefs about Set and Horus, but that's another matter entirely.)

Oooh, that's one I haven't heard before! It sound super unique and cool, I bet it looked awesome. And yeah, no, I don't mean to say he's just "bestial" -- Set is very very complex, probably the most complex personality-wise out of the deities I've written so far. I meant it in reference to the way I envision his strength -- see, I know he's often called "the greatest in virility," so I really like the idea of him possessing a TON of raw strength. He's big, muscular, and has claws and teeth to reinforce that fact; I wanted Set's physical appearance to reflect something caught on the fringe between "wild" and "civilized" as a reflection of his own chaotic nature and his tendency to have emotional outbursts, but I also wanted him to look regal and charismatic/attractive. In the story I've written, Set has a multitude of personality traits that I absolutely adore -- he's mischievous, stubborn, proud, and headstrong... I really love the character he's become, and his own personality/actions/etc. factor so much into the plot of my story (as he's basically one of the main gods driving the plot) that I could gush about it for hours on end.
I had forgotten that I uploaded the picture to FA for someone to use as a reference. Here it is: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/2561325/ The picture it was a reference for is in my Scraps folder... it contains some kinky goings-on and Set showing his, uhm, 'personal was sceptre', as it were. Ahem.
I never really see Set as 'chaotic': that, to me, is a later overlay on him after he'd fallen out of favour. I think a better word might be 'conflicted', or 'contradictory'. He's the god of outsiders, and the god of the desert, but he's also the protector of Ra, both as he sleeps and during the day-time. He's married to his sister, but he's had sex with males, especially Horus. He's very strong, yet lithe and regal. (I see him having lots of muscles but also being fairly slender; maybe that's just my wish-fulfillment speaking.) He's emotional and passionate, but he can also be gentle and caring. And he's one of the greatest gods, but in some ways rather innocent (again, re: Isis and Horus). --- Oh, good sir, this isn't intended as any commentary on your story, or your interpretation. I would love to sit and chat with you about this, and many other things, I think, and we could gush for hours
If I might, you may also like this: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/729086/ I wrote it long ago, and I submit it for your consideration, and, hopefully, enjoyment. I'm not a scholar of the Old World, as you are, just an amateur with a great love, so I apologise in advance for any errors.
