Spyro - Chest Prop Design
I've decided to tackle the first Spyro game ever made and reinterpret it as if it were going to have a modern day "live action" (read: hyperrealistically animated) film adaptation. We can all sleep easy knowing this will never happen, right? Right?
Chests are weird in Spyro. Like, you've always got the locked ones, which are classic wooden fantasy chests, and then you've got the first game's metal boxes with seemingly no true top or bottom, no true lid or body. And the little reptile can still smash through these metal candy wrappers with just his head and a little determination. Owie. I do miss the metal chests' presence in the sequels all the same, but the vases were a logical replacement.
Designing chests is hard. Not because chests are uniquely hard to draw or whatever - they're just fancy cubes, really - but because there's a glut of designs for them out there. That means that you not only have to design something unique, but you have to avoid being too influenced by A Metric Fuckton of pre-existing designs. Whatevs, I had fun rendering the jewels on this one.
