They're a mix of shy and curious :)
Sudden movement makes them scared, but they do like to poke about and explore if things are calm.

Probably a good time to befriend a little snake and have a lifelong relationship. :)

I try not to handle them too much until they've had their first shed and meal, but I like to maybe gently touch and have them sniff me a little bit at this stage.

What do they usually first eat?

small pinky mice! (I buy them frozen and thaw them out)

Why do they pile up like this?

That's one of those things up to conjecture - some people will say because they "like each other", others will say that's wishful thinking / projecting and that that spot just happens to have especially nice conditions.
Me? I don't see why one corner's so great and another isn't. Usually there's one huge pile, maybe a secondary small pile, and a few snakes wandering around. I feel like at this stage they do have some vague instinct to coil together until they're ready to go out and about.

So like any baby...they huddle with siblings instinctively....why isn't their mom with them o3o

Cause in the wild the mother lays the eggs and then leaves.
Also corn snakes have been known to cannabilise their offspring if left in the same tank as them but very rarely
