Sílean Erinsson O'Maolduin, Honoured Fiann of the Gallglahin, sworn swords to the High King, watches from the walls as winter's grasp clutches at the land, and takes hold in earnest. There had been an arrangement made with the Gallglahin, before they were ever sworn swords. In return for their service, they would survive the summer by hunt, and forage, and trade, but come winter, they would be housed within the keeps and walls of any Rí of the land. After they had sworn their swords, this oath was forged anew. Come winter, the Gallglahin were honoured guests in any hall for their faithful service to the High King.
But, even with such arrangements, there is yet duty to be done. They are soldiers still, though volunteers they may be. A thick pelt inures the body from the cold. A solemn oath keeps the heart.
