The first incarnation
September 14th, 1977
Leaning down onto the cool wet carpet of the Earth’s lush home, small, crackling rugs shifting under my wait.
“It’s just you and me, now,” I murmur to my dear Brielle, her body the same way it was as when it came to being as cicadas sang around her, the perfection of her personality 17 years in the making.
“Adam,” she whispered to me. “Don’t leave; I know that we can work this out. P-please..”
But I had to. My calling screamed, and I had taken a chance staying for fall as well as summer. Our span had crossed the ages, and I lay down beneath her, feeling the kiss of emerald before feeling the kiss of Brielle.
“I will always love you, Adam,” she whispered.
“Forever and always,” I whisper back. “Forever and always.”
